You can be a Reading Buddy to a local student by donating just one lunch hour per week. You'll eat lunch. You'll help your buddy read. You'll discuss the book you're sharing, and you'll talk about your lives.

Statistics show that children benefit significantly from spending just an hour a week with an additional significant adult in their lives. They learn better, communicate better, adjust to change better, and have more coping skills and greater self-esteem than children who don't have this contact.

What the statistics can't show is how wonderful YOU will feel when your buddy welcomes you to his or her school. Teachers say that children give up playtime eagerly on Reading Buddy days. Children with attendance problems are rarely absent on Reading Buddy days. The children feel special, and you will, too!

You will be a friend to your student. They will tell you about their friends, their problems and their dreams. The two of you will share the satisfaction of building reading skills and sharing stories.
