Progress Charted In 2001

Around our District’s schools, we can see exciting, positive results from the construction changes made during 2001. More changes are on the horizon for Mounds View Public Schools as we strive to provide the best learning environment for the students we serve. This newsletter will update you on the milestones we have achieved and give you a preview of what is to come.

As always, please communicate any concerns or questions about the construction to your school’s principal. He or she will be happy to assist you.

Work continues on the new addition and the new/upgraded mechanical systems and will continue throughout the duration of the school year. Main components of the mechanical system will be mounted on top of the new addition and will be fully operational by fall 2002. Deferred maintenance is being done throughout the building. Final completion is scheduled for fall 2002.

Island Lake Elementary School
Construction on the new gymnasium will continue throughout this summer. Mechanical systems are being replaced and/or upgraded and deferred maintenance is being done throughout the building. The heating and ventilation mechanical system components are operational and the chiller is now operational. Final completion is scheduled for fall 2002.

Pinewood Elementary School
Construction work at Pinewood should be wrapping up by early June with landscaping items being completed in the spring.

Valentine Hills Elementary School
Construction work on Valentine Hills is complete.

Highview Middle School
Many of the additions (science classrooms, gymnasium, media center and administration area) will be ongoing throughout this school year. The gymnasium block walls are up and the parking lots are complete. Mechanical systems are being replaced and/or upgraded and deferred maintenance is being done throughout the building. In various parts of the building, both the new and old heating and ventilation systems will have full implementation phased in during summer 2002. Final completion is scheduled for January 2003.

Irondale High School
Bids have come in on budget for work at Irondale High School. Planned improvements and changes include a competition gymnasium addition, a new administration area, remodeled music rooms and science rooms, repaired/replaced mechanical systems to address indoor air quality issues and deferred maintenance (i.e. some areas receiving repairs to lights, floor coverings, parking lots, roofs, ceiling tiles, etc.) Utility and electric service work is being completed right now. Construction on building additions and renovations will begin in spring 2002. Final completion is scheduled for summer 2003.

Mounds View High School
The new entry and classroom addition are completed and were occupied in January 2002 at the end-of-quarter classes for students. A new school entrance, six new science classrooms, eight new general classrooms and a Forum Room are all part of the new addition. Construction of the new music suite has also started. Final completion is scheduled for fall 2002.

Phase Three Progress Report

Snail Lake Elementary School, Turtle Lake Elementary School and Sunnyside Elementary School are completing documents for bid dates in early February 2002. Construction will start in spring 2002.

Edgewood Middle School will bid and start construction in spring 2002.

Chippewa Middle School is in the design phase.

All schools in Phase Three construction will have corridor ceiling tiles removed for better access so the mechanical consultants and mechanical construction contractors can view existing conditions. This will enable our consultants to anticipate the most efficient manner for installing new mechanical systems.

Removal of ceiling tiles does not indicate problems with indoor air quality and by no means jeopardizes the safety of our students and staff. Thank you for your patience.
