A Plan for Excellence
Welcome to the Irondale High School community. We invite you to explore Irondale, to discover for yourself what we already know - Irondale is one of the finest schools in Minnesota, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award winner. Irondale was also named to the top high schools in the country by Newsweek in March 2000, May 2003, and again in May 2005.
Irondale High School is about student excellence. We strive for excellence by incorporating: rigorous academic programs,a wide range of extra and co curricular activities, and strong support from the school and the community We strive to make Irondale a place of excellence, so that our graduates will have excellent futures.
Support of Excellence
- Irondale's mean SAT verbal score for the Class of 2005 was 598 as compared to a national mean of 508.
- Irondale's mean SAT math score for the Class of 2005 was 604 as compared to a national mean of 520.
- Irondale's mean ACT score for the Class of 2005 was 23.2 as compared to a national mean score of 20.9
- Irondale is proud of its post-secondary enrollment with nearly 85 percent of students registering in post-secondary schooling.
- An extensive curriculum of over 150 course offerings places emphasis on college preparation
- Irondale's academic teams continue to win awards in state and national competitions
- Irondale offers a comprehensive music education program which includes award-winning instrumental and vocal performing groups, as well as an acclaimed marching band.
- Irondale's Class of 2005 boasts three National Merit Finalists, three National Merit Semifinalists and twelve commended scholars.
- $50,226 in locally generated scholarships were granted to IHS graduates in 2005.
- Irondale's Career Center offers evening hours to assist students and parents in making post-secondary choices.
- Computer Networking Technology is a comprehensive two-year cooperative program with Mounds View High School offering the latest in computer technology.
- A 1999 Irondale graduate was selected as a Presidential Scholar.
- In 2005, 56 Irondale students were honored as AP Scholars: 19 were named AP Scholars with Distinction, 7 AP Scholars with Honor, 30 AP Scholars, and 1 National Scholar.
Pride in Excellence
is a motivation program at Irondale which encourages, recognizes, and rewards student excellence. The program provides recognition opportunities for all Irondale students, regardless of talent level or scholastic ability. Irondale's Pride in Excellence Program is a school - community sponsored project consisting of seven major components:

Excellence in Academics
The paths to student success are many and varied. Irondale is proud to offer a comprehensive selection of courses and programs in all academic areas including college and vocational prep.
A Closer Look:
- A diverse selection of math courses from Algebra to AP Calculus II and AP Statistics.
- A complete spectrum of science courses from Introductory Physical Science to Honors Physics and AP Biology.
- A comprehensive collection of Language Arts classes including AP Literature and Composition.
- A unique two-year program in American Sign Language which fulfills college admission requirements
- Introductory through AP level World Language courses in Spanish, French and German
- Complete TV Production and Radio Broadcasting Programs housed in a state of the art cable TV studio

College Credit Opportunities While at Irondale:
ADVANCED PLACEMENT is a program of college level course work offered to high school students. AP courses have rigorous requirements and often require more work, give greater opportunity for individual progress and accomplishment, and go into greater depth. The obvious advantages to students are challenging course work and the opportunity to earn college credit while staying on the school campus. AP courses offered at Irondale include:

College in the Schools:
College in the schools is a program of the University of Minnesota. All courses in the program are offered for degree credit and are approved by the college through which the courses are offered. Irondale offers College in the Schools classes in: Honors 12 Literature - U of M Modern Fiction/English 1018 Honors 12 Composition - U of M Writing Practice/Comp 1011-H
