What about
future years?
A levy that voters approved in 1986 will expire in 2008-09. Without this levy, and without the additional revenue the Legislature allows that Mounds View can request, the District would face shortfalls of more than $7 million. What would the District look like in 2 years? Visit here.
If voters do not approve the 2006 levy, the District will have to reduce $5.4 million to balance the budget for 2007-08.

Targeted reductions approved by the School Board on June 13 include:

* Class size increases in elementary schools:
   K = 24-30
   1 = 28-34
   2 = 29-35
   3 = 28-34
   4 = 30-36
   5 = 29-35

* Class size ranges will remain high (34-38) in middle school core courses

* Class size ranges will remain high (36-40) in high school core courses

* Reduction in central administrative services

* Elimination of elementary band and orchestra programs

* Reduction of the elementary school High Potential program

* Elimination of 6 middle school dean positions (3 will remain, 1 per school)

* Elimination of 3 high school dean positions (10 will remain, 5 per school)

* Reduction of high school Career and Technical Education opportunities

Why target teaching
positions, not
administration?

For every dollar spent, Mounds View spends 70 cents on instructional positions and 3 cents on District and school administration. See chart here.

Further reductions to administrative positions will not eliminate their necessary functions. As more administration is reduced, those required responsibilities will simply shift to principals and teachers.
* Reduction of high school co-curricular program budget

* Reduction of high school social workers and special education teachers

* Doubling of the transportation fee and family cap.

* Closing of all pools.
