February 14, 2011 -- Bel Air Elementary School in New Brighton is one of only 32 schools in the nation to receive a National Parent Teacher Association grant to celebrate the “2011 Take Your Family to School Week,” February 13 – 19, 2011.
Bel Air will use its grant of $1,897 (honoring the year PTA was founded) to host a Family Involvement Night on February 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. The event will feature music, dance, entertainment and food representing diverse cultures from around the world.
Bel Air serves an increasingly diverse immigrant population. With an enrollment of 668 students, 34 percent are students of color and 25 different languages are spoken at home.
This is the sixth consecutive year the National PTA presented grants to schools for their initiatives to engage families in their schools.
