Proposed property taxes
State Law requires school boards to certify their proposed property taxes by September 30. However, due to the delay by the Minnesota Department of Education and the recent state government shut down, the required levy limitation and certification documents were not made available to Mounds View Public Schools until after the School Board's regularly scheduled Board meeting on September 13, 2011. Therefore, a special School Board meeting was held September 27, 2011, to certify proposed property taxes.
Carole Nielsen, director of finance, presented a summary of the proposed property taxes payable 2012 for all funds with comparisons to taxes payable in 2011. The proposed taxes for 2012 total $41,925,461.29, which is $1,410,716.61 or 3.48 percent more than final taxes for 2011. Ramsey County anticipates mailing truth in taxation notices mid November 2011. Mounds View Public Schools will discuss the budget and the final property tax levy for 2012 at a focused forum scheduled before its regularly scheduled 7 p.m. Board meeting on December 13, 2011, at Snail Lake Education Center, when it will certify final property taxes.
