Gifts for Others: Holiday gifts for students in financial need. The program is anonymous, names of students are known only to the school social worker. Scholarships: Covers cost of field trips and yearbooks for students in financial need. Also assists with some extracurricular activity fees for qualifying students. Helping Hands: Social workers use funds to purchase items for students in financial need. |

Assemblies and Special Events: The PTA works with teachers and administrators to sponsor educational and social assemblies for students and/or their teachers. Examples include Math Mania, Book Adventures, Fitness Fever and Grade Level Family Socials Book Fair: A social event for parents and students to shop together for new books to encourage reading, as well as a fundraiser for the school library. Carnival: A social event for families to play games and have fun, as well as a fundraiser to support PTA activities and programs. Chalkboard Capers: A donation is made to District 621's annual staff variety show. The profits from this show provide scholarships for district students. Environmental Education: Funds used to enhance the grounds around the school building. Extra Curricular Activities: Funds are used upon request for exceptional costs incurred by activities representing Turtle Lake School. Examples include Choir, Foreign Language, Junior Great Books and Lego League. Field Day & President's Award: Ribbons and certificates of achievement given to students. Fine Arts Fair: Spring art fair which highlights artwork and musical selections of all students. Fundraising: The Direct Drive as well as other types of fundraisers to enrich all of the many programs that the PTA sponsors. Grade Level Project Fund: Funds are available for teachers to work on special projects with other classrooms within the same grade level. Grant to Turtle Lake Elementary: A donation made to Turtle Lake Elementary School. Handbooks and Communication Folders: Printing costs for handbook and calendar distributed to each Turtle Lake Family. This also includes communication folders for each student. Health Services: Incidental supplies purchased by School health care provider for students visiting the health office. Hospitality: Providing a meal for teachers during conferences and other staff related events. Media Technology: Purchases such as walkie-talkies. Patrol Picnic: Year-end picnic to recognize the students who volunteered to be bus patrols. PTA Directory and Membership: Directory information is collected, formatted, printed and distributed to PTA families. Dues are paid to the National PTA. School Spirit: Purchase and sell clothing, water bottles, lanyards, etc to promote school spirit. School Store: Students earn "good behavior" tickets to be spent on small toys and prizes at the store. Science Fair: Funds to help support the cost of the annual science fair. Student Council: Support for Student Council which is made up of elected 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Sunshine Fund: Funds to send flowers to staff members in times of illness, death, birth, etc. and students' families in times of death in the immediate family. Teacher Enrichment: Funds are available to each classroom teacher, Special Ed, PBS and specialists for additional teaching materials. Thoughtful Thursdays: Paper products and organization of Staff Appreciation days. Vision and Hearing Screening: Annual screening for students, staffed in part by PTA volunteers. Yearbook: Design, prepare, print and sell yearbook.

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Turtle Lake PTA!The Turtle Lake PTA builds bridges between home and school, integrating the efforts of parents with administration and teachers. Members of the PTA work to improve your child's school, community, and state/national education and health policies. The Mission of the PTA:To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the school, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children. · To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children. · To encourage parent and public involvement in our school. The Purposes of the PTA (in common with those of the National PTA and the Minnesota PTSA):· To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship. · To raise the standards of home life. · To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. · To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth. · To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education. |
