Greetings from Turtle Lake Elementary School (K-5) located in Shoreview, Minnesota. Turtle Lake is one of six elementary schools within the Mounds View School District located in the north suburbs of St. Paul. Our school presently contains eight sections in the kindergarten level. Our first through fourth grades currently have six sections each while our fifth grade has five. We enroll over 960 students, supported by over 120 full and part-time staff members. This is my fourth year serving as principal at this school. Prior to Turtle Lake, I had been principal at both Bel Air and Snail Lake Elementary Schools, all within the Mounds View School system. The staff and parents have high expectations for both achievement and academic growth for our students. This is born out in Turtle Lake's NCLB ratings in both Math and Reading, as detailed in the annual report card of schools published by the Minnesota Department of Education. Our staff work diligently to ensure that our students meet the criteria for attaining our Annual Yearly Progress. "Respect, Responsibility, and the Right to Learn!" continues to be our theme for student behavior. Students learn about the various aspects of Turtle Lake's theme throughout the school year. Turtle Lake relies on its high volume of experienced, capable, and accomplished group of parent volunteers. Our partnership with our parent community has paid dividends in providing additional student opportunities, extra-curricular programs, and overall enhanced instruction. Our local parent group provides financial assistance to individual teachers, as well as to grade levels and departments. Our annual Integrated School Improvement and Innovation Plan challenges our staff to set achievable goals, and to devise and implement interventions and strategies in order to meet these goals. The staff at Turtle Lake assist in developing areas of improvement and goal setting endeavors as indications of professional growth and development. The goals are reviewed annually, while progress and accomplishments are noted, modified and assessed. Thank you for visiting our Turtle Lake web site.
