• Frequently asked questions for fall 2021

    Last updated: August 26, 2021

What mitigation measures will be in place for schools?
Students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in school buildings. Students and staff who are experiencing symptoms of illness are asked to stay home. Routine cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces will continue. Hand hygiene practices and routines will continue. Structures will be in place to maintain as much distance as possible within the school building. Ventilation continues to filter air at the highest levels exceeding CDC and MDH requirements.

    Are vaccinations required for staff?
Although most staff and many students will be fully vaccinated, at this time COVID-19 vaccinations are not required nor included as a part of School Immunization Law in Minnesota.

    Will schools conduct testing?
The state recently shared that some options for testing will be available to schools, and we are currently learning more about those options. In the meantime, families are encouraged to access available testing in the community and continue health screenings at home.

How will exposures be monitored and communicated?
Contact tracing and notifying close contacts will continue. The District will continue to follow MDH’s guidance for isolating individuals who test positive for COVID-19.

When would a student have to quarantine?
We are not anticipating large-scale quarantining of classes or schools, but some students may need to quarantine depending on the situation. Quarantine will not be necessary in the following situations:

    • Both parties were wearing masks
    • The close contact is fully vaccinated and not experiencing any symptoms

Options for shortened quarantines are available and will be communicated to affected individuals.

How would increased community cases affect schools?
Trends in school case rates tend to mirror transmission rates in the local community, so we would anticipate the number of cases reported in our school buildings to rise and fall with the community trends.

    Will activities and events resume?
Yes. We will continue to monitor community trends and make adjustments as needed.

Will there be a distance learning option?
Mounds View Public Schools can provide a temporary window of online learning for affected students as necessary. but can not meet the considerable expectations of a full-time online provider. Families who are interested in a full-time online learning option for the 2021-22 school year can find a list of providers on the MDE website or get additional information by contacting Cindy Fyle in our enrollment office at cindy.fyle@moundsviewschools.org.
