Mounds View student learns from local reporter
During ThreeSixty Journalism’s annual summer TV reporting camp, Mounds View High School junior and budding journalist Han Vu-Tran was able to write and shoot a video news story with the help of reporters at KSTP Eyewitness News. Watch KSTP's report on the program below.
Marching Knights host 29th annual Music of the Knight performance
Irondale’s marching band hosted the 29th annual Music of the Knight performance this fall. The competitive field show was a spectacular combination of music, marching, movement and visual effects that featured local and regional marching bands from Minnesota and Wisconsin. They also claimed the Class AAA championship and came in fifth place overall in the state tournament in October.

Pinewood teacher featured on Fox 9
Pinewood Elementary English language learning teacher Leah Soderlund sat down with Fox 9 news to talk about the new school year. "I think if anything from last year we’ve learned flexibility. It’s kind of holding both truths at the same time – it’s been really hard but we’re also growing because of it,” she said. Watch the video below.
ALC students featured in statewide publication
Area Learning Center students David Alarcon Olivar, Samantha Moreno and Donna Chmielewski had pieces published in The Alchemist, a statewide publication that features writers from area learning centers across the state. The publication is published online annually by the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs. Read their work here.
Six ALC students named finalists in writing contest
The Minnesota Reading Association named six finalists from the Area Learning Center during their Celebrate Literacy Young Authors Celebration. The focus of the event was on student identity and honoring student’s unique voices and cultural backgrounds. This year’s prompt was titled, “My journey shapes who I am.” The finalists were David Alarcon Olivar, Donna Chmielewski, Karina Flores Ruiz, Molly Lamberson, Marcia Marquez Garcia and Samantha Moreno.
Irondale welcomes students back during Homecoming week
Irondale High School celebrated the return to school with a successful homecoming week. Highlights included a Powderpuff football game, pep fest, tailgating before the football game and the homecoming dance. Students had the opportunity to participate in dodgeball, volleyball and flag football events. Students came out on top during a teacher/student volleyball game, and seniors claimed victory in the annual Powderpuff football tournament. Spirit week theme days included pajama day, Y2K fashion day and school spirit day.
