• Q & A on what to do if you are serving food at a school event:
    Cost per Mounds View Schools cook per hour: $40.00/hour

    • Situation: There is a sporting event at a school. You buy food from the grocery store and sell it in the cafeteria to students. You would like to use milk coolers in the cafeteria to keep the beverages cold.
      Answer: When you contact Community Education to reserve the cafeteria, you NEED to state you would like to use a milk cooler. You will NEED a permit from Ramsey County to sell food.
    • Situation: You are having a meeting and want to order food from a restaurant. You are NOT SELLING the food.
      Answer: You do not need a permit from Ramsey County or a school cook present.
    • Situation: You are having a spaghetti dinner or hot dogs for a student group. The food is brought in from a restaurant or bought at a store and made at home. You are NOT SELLING the food. You serve it in the cafeteria and do not use the school kitchen or cook.
      Answer: You do not need a permit from Ramsey County and do not need a school cook present.
    • Situation: You are having a spaghetti dinner or hot dogs for a student group. The food is brought in from a restaurant or bought at a store and made at home. You are NOT SELLING the food. You ARE USING THE KITCHEN ovens to keep the food hot.
      Answer: You do not need a permit from Ramsey County. You NEED a district cook to be present - call Heather Schmidt to set one up. (651-621-6024)
    • Situation: You are having a school dance or event and want to order and SELL pizza from Domino’s. You are serving it in the cafeteria and are not using the school kitchen or cooks.
      Answer: You will need to call Ramsey County and get a permit to serve food.
    • Situation: You are having a school dance or event and want to order and SELL pizza from Domino’s. You are serving it in the cafeteria and ARE USING THE KITCHEN to keep the pizza warm.
      Answer: You will need to call Ramsey County and get a permit to serve food. A food event where food is sold needs a permit from Ramsey County. You do NEED a school cook to be present. Call Heather Schmidt to set up a cook to work. (651-621-6024)
    • Situation: You are having a meeting and want each person to bring a hot dish or dish to share. You will not be selling any food. The food will be kept hot in crock pots. You will be using the cafeteria.
      Answer: This is considered a potluck and you do NOT need to call Ramsey County for a permit.
    • Situation: You are having a cultural fair. The kids are making the food. The kids are SELLING the food to the public. The food is served out of the school's kitchen by the school’s cooks.
      Answer: You will NEED to call Ramsey County to get a permit to sell food to the public. You DO NEED a district cook to be present - call Heather Schmidt to schedule one. (651-621- 6024)
    • Situation: You are having a bake sale and selling non-perishable items. The total sales will be under $5,000.
      Answer: You need to post a sign that states the items were baked at home or by students. You do not need a permit.

    **Please remember groups can NOT use the kitchen without notifying Community Education or
    Heather Schmidt at the District office.
    **Anytime you are selling food to students, you need to contact Ramsey county for a permit.
