Day Use Programs

  • The day use experience at LEC is designed to offer a one day learning experience for schools and groups that are within a 50 mile range of LEC. In 1995, LEC implemented a three tier model of environmental education that includes the combined use of the school classroom, a day-use nature center and a residential experience at the Center. Each experience builds upon the previous, further enhancing what is learned and making connections among concepts.

The typical day use experience at LEC begins about 9:00 am with an activity period of approximately 2 hours in the morning. Students take a quick lunch break (30 min.) and proceed into another 2 hour activity period. In order to meet transportation needs, most groups depart about 2:00 pm. If your schedule does not meet this format, LEC staff can work with you to develop a time frame that better meets your needs.

LEC offers day-use learning experiences at school sites within 50 miles of LEC. LEC staff work with students at their school site either in the outdoors or in the classroom depending upon ientified learning goals.

For schools within the 50 mile range, LEC offers a special package of day-use and residential combined. This package provides a 1 day program at the school site, a 1 day program at LEC and a 2 day / 1 night at LEC.

See "Class and Activity Descriptions" in the planning guide for program options. LEC offers a special Kindergarten - grade 3 class options in addition to the options listed. Ask the LEC staff about these.
