Firearms Safety - Forkhorn I

  • For campers who were planning on receiving MN DNR Hunter Certification at Forkhorn 1, the MN DNR has both an online hunter certification course and an online field day. More information on the program and registration can be found here.  

     

    In Forkhorn I, students earn their Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Firearms Safety Certification. Students will experience extensive hands-on firearm handling and shooting opportunities as well as many safety aspects while becoming a responsible hunter. A highlight of the week is an all-day field trip to the Virginia Rifle and Pistol Club, where students will shoot up to 150 rounds of ammunition from firearms such as a .22, .223, .243, .270, .30-06 and a muzzleloading rifle, pistol and shotgun. Throughout the week students will also shoot clay pigeons with shotguns, take an archery class and be exposed to safe hunting practices.

    • Safe Shooting Scenarios
    • Hunter Ethics

    **Students must be 11 years of age on the first day of camp to attend.

    Cost: $425 per person includes instruction, lodging, home cooked meals and use of equipment. Parents may attend with their child at no additional cost.
