Prerequisite:
By referral only. Credit can be given in many subject areas.
This class is designed for students who demonstrate needs in the area of transition. Emphasis is on the transition areas: Home living, jobs/job training, post-secondary options, community participation, and emotional and physical health. E-Mentoring with local businesses and community service learning partnership is a component of this course. Weekly college, careers, and motivational speakers.
Some of the course topics include self-advocacy, career and post-secondary preparation, effective communication skills and strategies. A highlight of this course will be in May, with a "Mentoring Celebration” presentation that students plan and invite their Medtronic mentor to attend. Upon graduation, students will leave with a graduation plan in place along with a compilation of documents they created in class.
