New Board Chair elected
Every year during the annual Organization of the School Board, the Chair calls for nominations for Chair, Vice Chair, Clerk and Treasurer – after which the Board votes on the nominations. This year, Amy Jones was nominated and elected Chair, and Jon Tynjala was nominated and elected Vice Chair. In addition, the Board approved the election of Greg Madsen as Clerk and Bob Helgeson as Treasurer.
It is found to be in the best interest of the District to refinance the Taxable General Obligation OPEB Refunding Bonds. At the December 9, 2014, Board meeting a resolution was approved authorizing the District's financial advisors to solicit proposals for the purchase and sale of the bonds. At the January 13 meeting, the Board approved the final resolution ratifying the award of sale, prescribing the form and details and providing for the payment of $17,515,000 Taxable General Obligation OPEB Refunding Bonds, Series 2015A.
Planning ahead: Two years of school calendars now available
Parents now have the next two years of school calendars available to review and plan around, after the School Board approved the 2016-17 calendar. Previously in November 2014, the Board approved the 2015-16 calendar. Each year, calendars are discussed with the Joint Policy Committee, which is comprised of teachers, principals, School Board members and District administrators who work together within state statutory mandates to create the calendar. Quarterly budget update and amendments
Carole Nielsen, director of finance, presented the revenue and expenditure reports for all funds for the second quarter ending December 31, 2014. Both revenues and expenditures are within budget for fiscal year 2014-2015 and are very comparable to this time last year. An update on investment holdings and interest earnings was a new addition to the quarterly board report. Nielsen also reported the quarterly budget amendments. As additional budgetary information becomes known, it is necessary to amend the District's budgets to reflect those changes. The Board received updated budget assumptions for fiscal year 2015-2016 as presented by Carole Nielsen. Work continues on developing the final assumptions that are scheduled to be approved by the School Board at its January 27 meeting. The budget assumptions are the basis for developing the final budget that will be presented in June 2016. For more details, please visit the Budgets & Finance page at www.moundsviewschools.org.
