The Board approved a resolution to terminate a certified staff member pursuant to Minnesota Statutes section 13.43, subdivision 2.
Quarterly budget report & amendmentsCarole Nielsen, director of finance, presented the revenue and expenditure reports for all funds for the third quarter ending March 31, 2016. Both revenues and expenditures are within budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 and are very comparable to this time last year. Nielsen also reported on the quarterly investment summary and budget amendments. As additional budgetary information becomes known, it is necessary to amend the District's budgets to reflect those changes. For more details, please visit the Budgets & Finance page at www.moundsviewschools.org.
Enrollment report indicates increaseEnrollment projections for the 2016-17 school year indicate an anticipated enrollment of 11,022 students. This would represent an increase of 128 students from last fall. Next fall's class size projections do not exceed current class size averages. To review the report, visit here.
Superintendent's contract approvedThe School Board announced that it has successfully negotiated a three-year superintendent contract with Chris Lennox, effective July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2019. The majority of the contract terms have remained substantially the same as the previous superintendent’s contract. The contract includes total compensation for the next three school years made up of both fixed annual amounts and variable amounts. Compensation was determined based on years of educational administration experience and research of superintendent compensation in comparable, local, similar-size school districts. The Superintendent will be responsible for health care coverage upon retirement, and there will be no direct cash payments for unused personal time-off benefits. “Whenever there’s a transition there’s a natural tendency for people to wonder where we are headed next,” said Lennox. “I want people to know I will bring a consistency and a commitment to the District’s core work. I’m excited to begin, and I anticipate a smooth transition.” In response, the Board noted it looks forward to working with Lennox in his new capacity as superintendent.
STEAM planningAs the District continues to work to meet the Equity Promise commitment to developing the 12 Habits of Mind, the STEAM program is being expanded to reach all District students. Chris Lennox, assistant superintendent, and Angie Peschel, director of curriculum and instruction, talked about the history of STEAM and outlined the next phase for STEAM beginning in 2016-2017.
