    6th Grade Goal Setting Meeting Sign-ups
    As a part of planning your child's middle school success here at Edgewood, we are requesting that ALL 6th grade students and parents/guardians attend a 30-minute, one-on-one, goal-setting session with their dean to create a  personalized academic plan.     News From Nutrition Services
    2016-17 Lunch/Breakfast Prices: 
    Secondary Lunch: $2.80
    Secondary Breakfast: $1.50 
    Milk: $.50
    Adult Lunch: $3.70
    Adult Breakfast: $1.75
    Nutrition Services Department will not be mailing out letters to students in the district with their pin number or a paper copy of the Application for Educational Benefits.  
    Families can complete the 2016-17 Application for Educational Benefits form online at https://www.moundsviewschools.org/lunchmenus starting August 1. Paper applications will also be available at all schools in English and Spanish starting August 1.
    Families can see their student's Lunch Pin number when they log into their Pay Pams account at http://www.paypams.com or log into their Fee Pay account.

    2016-17 7th Grade LEC Trip Dates Announced
    6th Grade Families - The dates for next year's LEC trip have been confirmed. Next year we will have two trips - one will be from March 6-8 and one will be from March 8-10, 2017. Students will be assigned to one of these two trips. The cost for next year's trip will be $75. Registration materials and additional information will be available at the Edgewood Orientation and Open House on August 29.  
    Summer Photo Contest
    Summer is right around the corner! Whether you have an exotic trip planned or plan to stay home and relax, we have a contest opportunity for you!  Edgewood is sponsoring a photo contest for summer. To participate, applicants need to submit a photo with the following details:
    • The photo needs to feature a book, a student and a location (to illustrate what you did this summer)
    • The book cover and student should be recognizable (be sure school has parent permission to publicly post your photo)
    • Photo must also contain a caption 
    • Photo can be edited using photo editing software - be creative & have fun with it!
    • Photos can be submitted in print or digitally (jpg, gif, or png, please) to Ms. Mildenberger
    Deadline for submissions is Friday, September 9. The winner will be announced on Monday, September 12, on morning announcements.
    • Winning photo will be featured on the announcement monitor in the lobby
    • Student will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card.  
    All submissions will be displayed in case outside the IMC.
    Summertime Tip - Prevent Cyberbullying
    Parents and kids can prevent cyberbullying. Together, they can explore safe ways to use technology.
    Be Aware of What Your Kids are Doing Online & Establish Rules about Technology Use: 
    • Establish rules about appropriate use of computers, cell phones, and other technology. For example, be clear about what sites they can visit and what they are permitted to do when they're online. Show them how to be safe online.

    • Help them be smart about what they post or say. Tell them not to share anything that could hurt or embarrass themselves or others. Once something is posted, it is out of their control whether someone else will forward it.

    • Encourage kids to think about who they want to see the information and pictures they post online. Should complete strangers see it? Real friends only? Friends of friends? Think about how many people who aren't friends could use it. 

    • Tell kids to keep their passwords safe and not share them with friends. Sharing passwords can compromise their control over their online identities and activities.

    For more information regarding Cyberbullying, PLEASE come to Edgewood's Social Media/Cyberbullying Parent Presentation on Thursday evening, September 8, from 6-8 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Alison Feigh and her topic will be Navigating the Virtual Playground: Healthy Choices and Worrisome Pitfalls for Today's Children.  
    As technology grows and adapts, children are growing and adapting right along with it. The online highway can have some steep learning curves, for students and parents. Youth can find themselves in over their head as technology choices move faster than their developmental abilities. Technology isn't a bad thing, but young people need help in navigating these tools so that their empathy and sense of self can grow and develop. This presentation details the risks students are facing and practical, positive ways that adults can respond.  
    Irondale High School Homecoming
    Irondale's Homecoming will be the week of September 26 - October 1. Come support the Irondale Knights at their Homecoming Football game on Friday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. against Armstrong High School. 
    Beauty and the Beast   
    Edgewood Middle School Drama Department is excited to announce that we will be performing Beauty and the Beast, Jr. next school year on November 10, 11, and 12, 2016! We are asking families to be on the lookout for props and costumes at summer garage sales or in your own basement! If you get an appliance this summer, save the cardboard so we can use it to make props! All Edgewood students will have the opportunity to audition next Fall so watch for announcements! This will be a really fun production so get ready to be amazed!!

    EPAT (Edgewood Parent And Teachers)
    School Store:  School supplies will be available for purchase at Orientation on August 26 and 29. Locker Mates ($22) keep your locker and yourself organized! Paper, pens, pencils, highlighters, binders, and many other school supplies will be available as well.  
    Spirit Wear:  Edgewood Spirit Wear will be available to order on the Edgewood website beginning in late August. Look for Eagle Pride sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweatpants and hats! Ordering information will be available at Orientation and items can be purchased through the second week of school. Orders will then be completed and delivered to students at school.
    Any school supplies and spirit wear are sold on behalf of EPAT. All funds are directed back to Edgewood for use by staff. 
    Please continue to support Edgewood through the summer by participating in the below fundraisers.
    Food Taste Testing: Earn some extra $$CASH$$ and sample some really great food. All you have to do is log on and register at www.fpitesters.com.
    Box Tops: Please save all of your box tops and turn them in at Edgewood. There is a drop box in the lobby of the school. This is just another way to earn money for our kids.
