Dear Bel Air Families:
Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! It was great to see so many of you at our Back to School events! The halls are filled with excitement as the students renew friendships, meet their teachers, and finally get to use their new school supplies. The students are quickly easing into the daily routines of school and have been modeling their Tiger Pride of being respectful, responsible and ready to learn! It was a fantastic first week of school!
We will continue to send our Bel Air Update via email every Friday to keep you abreast of news, activities and special events. In addition, we have a new parent/student portal called ParentVue. If you need additional information or assistance in signing up for the parent portal, please contact our office. We look forward to a banner year of learning at Bel Air School! Go Tigers!
Safe Route to School Trail (Hanson Park Comprehensive Water Management Project)
The Rice Creek Watershed District will be completing a comprehensive water management project which will impact the “Safe Route to School” trail through Hansen Park. The “Safe Route to School” trail will not be available for student use beginning fall of 2016 through fall of 2018. In cooperation with the City of New Brighton, an alternative route for students to follow has been created. We have contacted families who may be impacted by this change, but wanted to provide the information to all families. Please contact the school or the City of New Brighton if you have additional questions. Attached is a map showing the alternative route. Alternative Route MapMorning Drop Off ReminderPlease do not drop off students for school before 8:20 am. Committee members work in partnership with the district and community to gain knowledge and provide feedback about about curriculum and other instructional issues.FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:
We ask your help in providing a safe environment for students in our school who have severe food allergies. There are certain foods that more commonly cause severe allergic reactions for some individuals. Those foods include: foods containing peanut and/or tree nut (walnut, pecan, cashew), egg, fish/shellfish, soy, dairy, and wheat. Peanut/nut allergies are among the most common life-threatening allergies, especially in children. If your child eats peanut or tree nut products before school, please have him/her wash hands before departing for school.
If your child has peanut butter, Nutella, or other peanut/nut products in his/her bag lunch, please reinforce the importance of hand washing after lunch.
Please avoid sending snacks/treats that have peanuts, peanut products, or tree nuts in them for your child to eat in the classroom.
In order to help promote all students’ health, as well as providing a safe environment for our students with food sensitivities, elementary school guidelines state: “If you wish to bring something to share with classmates for a birthday celebration, please limit it to a nonfood acknowledgement. Donation examples include but are not limited to: student’s favorite book to the class collection, have a special “guest reader” read a book to the class, stickers, pencils, pens, markers, erasers, a board game to the class for indoor recess days, etc.”
Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions or concerns, please call.
