This fall, parents, staff, high school students and community members were invited to participate in a community engagement process around school start times. The community was asked to answer open-ended questions online and assign stars to the thoughts of others who responded.

At the October 25 School Board meeting, Thought exchange presented the summarized results of the community engagement process. The public engagement revealed the following.

    • Widespread support for later high school start times was expressed by all groups: parents, students, staff and community members.
    • This support far surpassed any other theme expressed, including a desire to not change start times.
    • The greatest concerns and questions were related to the impact on students and families, with specific concerns about before- and after-school activities.

In response to the feedback provided by the community, the Board directed the administration to develop school start times options for consideration and review at the November 15 School Board meeting. For more information, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/starttimes.
