    2016-17 Peace Poster Contest Winners
    Students in Mr. Bias' 7th & 8th Grade Art Classes had the opportunity to participate in the local Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Students who participated had to be 11-13 years old as of November 15, 2016. Posters were evaluated on three criteria - originality, artistic merit and expression of this year's theme, "A Celebration of Peace". The 1st and 2nd place winners will be forwarded on to the International Lions District level of competition. Congratulations to the following winners chosen by Edgewood/Lions:

    New/Gently-Used Trendy Teen Clothes Wanted 
    Edgewood is looking for new/gently-used trendy teen clothes for our FREE tables. Students have the opportunity to stop by and take any items they may need. Popular items are shorts, brand name t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, shoes, boots, hats, gloves and winter coats. If you have any of these items that you can donate, the students would be very appreciative!
    Start Times Options
    At the November 15 School Board meeting, the Board reviewed three options for 2107-18 school start times. To review the options and provide online feedback, please visit https://www.moundsviewschools.org/starttimes. The Board also invited the community to discuss the options at a public meeting.

    A final decision is expected by the Board no later than February 2017, with any changes implemented for the 2017-18 school year.  
    7th Grade LEC Trip- Mark Your Calendars!
    7th grade parents/guardians - Mark your calendars for next spring's LEC trip. The 7th grade class will be broken into two groups...one group will go March 6-8 and the other group March 8-10, 2017. Students will leave from Edgewood Middle School at 7 a.m. and return at approximately 4:00 p.m. Students will need to be picked up from Edgewood upon their return. If you did not make one of the parent information sessions November 17 during communication hours, watch for more information online after Thanksgiving break.  
    8th Grade Transition Meeting - Mark Your Calendars
    8th grade parents/guardians are invited to attend an information session facilitated by Irondale High School Principal Amy Janecek on Monday evening, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. to find out about the opportunities available to your student and answer any questions you may have as you prepare them for the transition to high school. The session will take place in the Edgewood Cafeteria. We look forward to having you attend.  

    Also, this past October, 8th grade students had the opportunity to take the ACT Explore test. These test results will also be distributed to families this night and Edgewood staff will be available to answer any questions. 

     santa Waffle Breakfast
    Join us for the All-You-Can-Eat Waffle Breakfast sponsored by the Mounds View Lions and Edgewood Leos on Sunday, December 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Edgewood Middle School's Cafeteria, 5100 Edgewood Drive, Mounds View. Menu includes Belgian waffles, sausage, milk, juice, and coffee.  Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and FREE for ages 5 and under. Visit Santa and get a photo for $5.  We will also have music, crafts and a chance to win a Teddy bear.  Please join us! The flyer can be found here. 
     Upcoming STEAM Showcase STEAM

    Our upcoming STEAM Showcase will be on Wednesday, January 25, from  1:30 - 2:45 p.m. We are looking for guest "judges" to help judge the students' work. Your time would consist of a brief orientation about the Showcase and then you will be assigned a class to "judge". Our hope is to have two or more judges per classroom.      After-School Sports soccer basketball hockey swim snowboard

    Registration for winter sports (Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Floor Hockey, and Swimming) is now available online here. Skiing/snowboarding registration deadline is Monday, December 5. The Skiing/Snowboarding Program will meet on Monday and Tuesday of each week beginning Monday, December 12. Buses will leave Edgewood after school and return around 9:15 p.m. For updated information or cancellations due to weather, call the Ski Hotline at 651-621-7484 after noon on the day in question.     Math Team Meet

    Art/Make Anything Club
    Art/Make Anything Club is for students who want to explore the design/engineering process including advanced processes in art, as well as maker space design and creation. Students will have the opportunity to utilize the laser cutter, 3D printer, vinyl cutter, and other Makerspace tools as they creatively design projects of interest. This program supports enrichment and inquiry through creative exploration of the STEAM components of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The Art/Make Anything Club will meet every Tuesday after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the Makerspace Area beginning Tuesday, December 6.     Recycle for the Rainforest
    Do you want to help save the rainforests? By recycling your old cell phones and other electronics, you can make a difference in protecting these endangered environments. Girl Scout Troop 55409 is sponsoring a recycling drive from November 5-20. What do you need to do? It's simple - just bring those old cell phones and chargers to your school office and put them in the designated box. 
    Please turn off phones, erase sim cards, and reset to original factory settings. If an item does not work, the minerals in the electronics will be recycled for future electronics. If the item still works, it will be donated to people in need or resold. Any proceeds from resold items are donated environmental programs through the Minnesota Zoo.     Ralph Reeder Operation Joy Program gift
    Need help with holiday toys and gifts for your children? There are two ways to register your children: 
    1. During any daytime food shelf appointment (Now through Dec. 2) by calling 651-621-7451 to set up your appointment. You will receive food and your toy pick up times the same day.  

    2. Wednesday, November 30, from 12:30-2:00 walk-in registration for toys - no need to make an appointment. Please bring: picture ID for yourself, current piece of mail (proof of residence), some form of identification on your children (medical cards, school IDs, birth certificates, or social security cards).
    Important: Your children may only be registered for one holiday toy program. Toy registration ends December 2. Spanish version can be found here.
    SEPPAC (Special Ed Parent and Professional Advisory Council) Meeting

    EPAT- Edgewood parents & teachers

    Please join us for any of our EPAT meetings listed below. All meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. in the front office conference room. Please join us when you can.

    A limited supply of Locker Mates ($22) are available to keep your locker and yourself organized! Contact Ms. Mildenberger in the Front Office if you are interested in purchasing one. 
    Any school supplies and spirit wear are sold on behalf of EPAT. All funds are directed back to Edgewood for use by staff. 
    You can support Edgewood by participating in the below fundraisers:
    Food Taste Testing: Earn some extra $$CASH$$ and sample some really great food. All you have to do is log on and register at www.fpitesters.com.
    Box Tops: Please save all of your box tops and turn them in at Edgewood. There is a drop box in the front office of the school. This is just another way to earn money for our kids. Please be sure Box Tops are not expired as they will not accept
