    The end of the first quarter was Thursday, November 3rd. Report cards will not be mailed out this quarter, however; parents and students will be able to view them today via Student VUE and Parent VUE.

    You are invited to visit 8th Grade Expo Night from 4-7:00 PM during Parent Teacher Communication Night on Monday, November 14th.  Students will be set up in the Highview Lobby.


    There will be about 25 groups of students selling store-bought foods like cookies, cupcakes, brownies and pizza and pop.  In addition, groups will be selling hand-made products like bracelets, up-cycled plastic bottles, temporary tattoos, and t-shirts.


    Students will be educating others and bringing awareness by talking with you, providing a video, doing silly tricks, shooting baskets or handing out cards.


    The proceeds of the evening will be going to a variety of charities relating to their human rights project.  


    Be sure to ask questions to help students get  ready for their Human Rights Presentations on December 1st!



    Mark your calendars now for a Highview Parent Group Meeting on Tuesday, November 29 in the Highview Learning Center from 6-7:30 PM.  Guest speakers; Amy Janecek and Jeff Ridlehoover, Irondale High School and Mounds View High School Principals, will be presenting.  Both principals plan on sharing information about transition from 8th grade to high school, AP courses, Early College classes, class offerings, activities and more.



    The play is looking for a set designer/ prop leader this year.  This person would work with Highview students to create the set and props for our spring musical, “Beauty and the Beast, Jr." 


    This position begins in January and runs through the play performances on Thursday and Friday, March 2 and 3 at 7:00 PM; and on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 PM.

    The EL department is looking for parent/community adult volunteers who are able to help tutor/assist Highview newcomer students with English as their second language during day. 


    Any amount of time (1 period or more) would be so appreciated!  Last year, we had two parents (moms) who helped us out the 2nd semester and it was incredibly helpful.



    Congratulations to the Highview Chess Club who hosted and competed in the School Chess Association Fall Grade Level Tournament this past Saturday, November 5th.  Please congratulate the first place team members Shane Weber, Alan Bergland, Colin Marsh, and Nathanial Weber who both played up in the 8th through 12thgrade division. Out of five trophies awarded for this section, FOUR were Highview students.  Nathanial Weber took 1st place overall, Shane Weber took 2nd, Alan Bergland took 4th and Colin Marsh took 5th.  Way to go team!  Hawk Pride!



    Show tickets for Edgewood's Fall Musical, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast, Jr." are available for sale every morning before school or in the front office during the school day, as well as one hour before each showtime. Show tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. There will be a dinner and/or show option on Thursday evening, November 10. Dinner and show tickets for Thursday evening are $11 for adults and $8 for students. Show times are on Friday, November 11 at 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 PM.  



    After-School Ski and Snowboarding Program is open to all 6th-12th grade students.  The cost of $228.00 includes 8 lift tickets, ski corral, 1 lesson/assessment and motor coach transportation to and from Afton Alps. 


    Equipment can be rented for $15, which includes a helmet.  Buses depart after school.  Students must ride the bus to and from the ski area.  Buses will leave after school and return to school by 9:15 PM.

    Attention all 7th and 8th graders that are interested in Nordic Skiing-- the Irondale High School season starts on Monday, November 14th.  


    Don't have a lot of experience?  No problem - we have lots of coaches that want to help new skiers learn to ski!

    Don't have equipment?  No problem - the team has worked hard to purchase team equipment for first-year skiers to check out the sport!


    On Wednesday, November 9th from 7:50-8:00 AM there will be a brief student meeting with Coach Torvi in the Highview Learning Center for interested students

    On Saturday, November 12th from 9-10:00 AM there will be a mandatory parent / skier meeting in the Irondale Choir Rroom.  Coach Torvi will be going over details for the upcoming season.  First-year skiers will have a chance to check out equipment

    Highview will have a new Swing Dance club beginning on Thursday, November 10 in the Highview Cafeteria.   The club will run every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 2:45 to 4:00 PM.  Instructors will be on hand to teach you the coolest dance moves.  Permission slips are available in the front office.

    The Mounds View Public Schools and the Special Education Parent and Professional Advisory Council (SEPPAC) invite parents to attend the SEPPAC meeting on November 17 from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. at Snail Lake Education Center. Chris Lennox, Superintendent of Mounds View Public Schools, will attend the SEPPAC meeting and will share his views on special education in the District. He will be available to hear parent views.  



     On Friday, November 18th, we welcome back Highview parent, Marcel Derosier, to be our community expert doing an interactive presentation about the traditional Ojibwe ways of harvesting wild rice.  He has come before and it's always a great day! 



    This fall, parents, staff, high school students and community members were invited to participate in a community engagement process around school start times. The community was asked to answer open-ended questions online and assign stars to the thoughts of others who responded. 

    At the October 25 School Board meeting, Thought exchange presented the summarized results of the community engagement process. The public engagement revealed the following.

    • Widespread support for later high school start times was expressed by all groups: parents, students, staff and community members.
    • This support far surpassed any other theme expressed, including a desire to not change start times.
    • The greatest concerns and questions were related to the impact on students and families, with specific concerns about before- and after-school activities.

    In response to the feedback provided by the community, the Board directed the administration to develop school start times options for consideration and review at the November 15 School Board meeting. For more information, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/starttimes.



    Any student interested in wrestling for the varsity or junior varsity team at Irondale is invited to Irondale High School for captains’ practices starting immediately, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. in the Irondale Wrestling Room.  You are welcome to come up and watch or participate.  In particular, wrestlers are needed at lower weights.  Middle school and high school students are eligible for the high school team.

    Season registration is through ParentVue-Feepay. Please note, middle school athletes need to submit additional forms to participate in high school sports.  Regular season practice starts November 21st at 2:30 p.m.at the high school.

    Irondale Wrestling Team Orientation Night will be Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Irondale IMC.  This is a mandatory meeting for parent/guardian and wrestlers.  Wrestling participation expectations and drug awareness education will be covered at this meeting.

    If you need help with holiday toys and gifts for your children, Ralph Reeder Food Shelf’s Operation Joy program can help.  There are two ways to register your children:


    ·         During any daytime food shelf appoint from November 1 through December 2 by calling 651-621-7451 to set up your appointment.  You will receive food and your toy pick up times the same day. 


    ·         Wednesdays, November 9th, 16th or 30th from 12:30 to 2:00 PM there will be walk-in registration for toys.  No need to make an appointment.  Please bring:  a picture ID for yourself, current piece of mail (proof of residence), and some form of identification for your children (medical cards, school ID, birth certificate or Social Security Cards).

    Settlers of Catan will be our first tournament at the Fall Table Top Game Festival on Friday, November 11th from 6:00 – 10:00 at Highview Middle School.  Registration for the tournament will open soon!



    Parenting teens is hard—even when everything is going well.  It can feel impossible when difficulties arise.  Join us for an 8-session course facilitated by Marty Spicer, MA – Marriage and Family Therapy, and conducted in partnership with other parents like you.

    Participants will learn how to successfully parent their teen with less stress and more joy.  This parent-only class emphasizes hands-on learning and practical problem-solving skills.  Couples/Partners are encouraged to attend together.  The class is limited to 12 families with youth in the Mounds View School District.  Cost is $80 per parent group and includes a workbook.  Scholarships are available for those unable to afford the fee.  Call for details.
