    Registration forms were handed out to students who are entering 7th and 8th grade next year. Just a friendly reminder that if they have not turned in their registration forms, they need to do so ASAP. Students entering 7th grade next fall should return this form and students entering 8th grade should return this form. Your prompt attention is greatly appreciated.

     8th Grade Focus Group Sessions  focus
     
    During the weeks of March 1-10, Principal Penny Howard and Equity Specialist Xavier Reed will continue meeting with 8th Graders during the school day to gather feedback about their experience here at Edgewood - what they like about Edgewood, what we can improve on, etc. Students who do not feel comfortable in participating in the focus groups can opt out.    
     
     Upcoming Field Trips fieldtrip  
     
    The "Robotics" STEAM Class will be going on a field trip Friday, February 17, to PAR Industries, a leading robotics contractor for companies all over the world, which is located right in the Mounds View School District! Students will leave at 1:20 p.m. and return back to Edgewood around 3:30 p.m. Students may either get picked up or take the activity bus home at 4:00 p.m. The field trip is FREE and is part of our STEAM Program curriculum so students are expected to attend. Permission forms should be turned in to Ms. Crenshaw ASAP. A copy of the permission form can be found here.
     
    The "Dogs & Jobs" STEAM Class will be going on a field trip Friday, February 24, to Wynnsong Theaters to see the movie "A Dog's Purpose" to learn more about how dogs can help us and how we can help them. Students will leave at 1:15 p.m. and return back to Edgewood by 4:00 p.m. The field trip is FREE and is part of our STEAM Program curriculum so students are expected to attend. Permission forms should be turned in to Mrs. D'Alessandro or Ms. Sturm ASAP. A copy of the permission form can be found here
    Edgewood's Quiz Bowl Team Going to Nationals  quizbowl
     
    Edgewood's Quiz Bowl Team placed in the top four at a recent meet of 30 teams, qualifying them for Nationals.  Teams of four competed against each other in fast-paced academic rounds.  The team will travel to Dallas, TX, May 12-14 to compete against 120 teams from around the country.
     
    Congratulations to the following team members: Triana Grigsby (8th), Ammar Ahmed (8th), Molly Schuh (7th), Xander Pichner (7th), and McCullen Wilmert (6th), as well as coaches Dan Perucco and Johanna Sturm.

    Edgewood is excited to host 20 local teams for a Quiz Bowl Meet on Saturday, February 18. Teams of four compete against each other in fast-paced academic rounds. The tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m. Spectators are welcome to attend!
     
    Pinewood/Sunnyside Band Tour  band
     

    7th, 8th, and Jazz Band students will be going on a band tour to Pinewood and Sunnyside Elementary Schools on Thursday, February 23. Students will be responsible for bringing their instrument, folders, and music. Percussionists will need to bring everything they use and should come to the Band Room immediately before school to begin loading gear. Students are responsible for bringing their own money for lunch or a bag lunch. Students must have written permission to attend this activity.  Please sign the permission form and return it to Mr. Johnson by Wednesday, February 22. If you would like to chaperone, please include your contact information on the form.  A copy of the permission form can be found here.

    After-School Sports soccer hockey swim snowboard

    Indoor Soccer will start Monday, February 27; Floor Hockey will start Tuesday, February 28; and Swimming will start Monday, March 6.  You can register for these sports online here. There is no Skiing/Snowbarding the week of February 20 and the last sessions will be the week of February 27For updated Skiing/Snowboarding information or cancellations due to weather, call the Ski Hotline at 651-621-7484 after noon on the day in question.     Family Ski Nights  ski
     
    Family Ski Nights are back at Afton Alps!  District families, friends, and staff members are invited to join us for another season of Family Ski Nights at Afton Alps. The dates for the 2017 season are February 19 and March 5 from 3:00-9:30 p.m. Take advantage of these special rates on lift tickets and rentals. 
     
    Please note the deadline to register is always NOON on the Friday before the session, no exceptions once registration is closed. Each session will have its own registration to avoid mix-up with dates.
     
    Transportation will not be provided. Families are to provide their own transportation to and from Afton Alps.

    The talented Marching Knights will perform their new shows: "Forever" (Drumline) and “Please Hold” (Colorguard).  Ticket prices are $8 for seniors/students and $10 for adults and will get you into both competitions.

    Irondale Knights Wrestling Clinic
     
    Join us for a FREE Irondale Knights Youth Wrestling Clinic for grades K-8 on March 6-9, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Irondale High School Wrestling room (located in the lower level). You will be introduced to the wrestling coaching staff and learn wrestling techniques and rules. Wear shorts, t-shirt and soft sole shoes. You will receive a free Irondale Wrestling t-shirt, pizza on March 7, snack on March 8 and ice cream on March 9.     concordia Concordia Language Villages  
     

    Attention all students!  Come to Concordia Language Villages with us this May!


    What:  Spanish  Immersion weekend in Bemidji, MN


    When: May 11-14, 2017 (Thursday- Sunday)


    Theme of the Camp:  The theme for the Spanish village weekend this year is El Camino Andino. Concordia  will be focusing the program on the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

     

    Cost: $320 includes roundtrip transportation, lodging, meals and all programming.

    Music at Mounds View is a professional concert series that brings high-caliber, nationally recognized artists into our community for public performances at Mounds View High School. One concert remains in the 2016-17 series:
     
    Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Nap Time Players will perform on Sunday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. Two-time GRAMMY-nominated Justin Roberts is one of the "all-stars" of the indie family music scene. For nearly 20 years, Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families' lives, helping them navigate the joys and sorrow of growing up and helping parents remember their own childhoods. Along with his band, The Not Ready for Nap Time Players, they have traveled the globe, from Hong Kong to New York, and Miami to Seattle. Purchase tickets here.

    Chalkboard Capers
     
    Chalkboard Capers is a variety show presented annually by the staff of the Mounds View Education Association. The goal is to raise money for student scholarships given to graduating seniors from Irondale High School, Mounds View High School, REACH Academy, Area Learning Center and Adult Basic Education. Each scholarship is for $621. The number of scholarships awarded depends on the financial success of the show. This year's shows are April 5-8, 2017.  Showtimes are listed below:

    Friday, April 7 - 6:30 p.m.
    Saturday, April 8 - 1:00 & 6:30 p.m. 
     
     
    MN DNR Firearms Safety/Hunter Education Course
     
    The Mounds View Police Department is sponsoring a MN DNR Firearms Safety/Hunter Education Course from Tuesday, April 11 - Thursday, April 27. The cost is a non-refundable fee of $15. Students must be 11 years old to complete this certification course and anyone born after December 31, 1979, is required to have a hunter safety certificate in order to purchase a hunting license. This course consists of 17 hours of classroom and field experience in the safe handling of firearms, first aid and hunter responsibility. The field experience allows students the opportunity to learn and demonstrate commonly accepted principles of safety in regards to firearms and hunting. This course includes live fire on a gun range with a .22 caliber rifle. DNR standards requires 100% class attendance. Dates are:
     
    Tuesday, April 11 - 5:30-8:30 pm.
    Thursday, April 13 - 6:00-8:30 p.m.
    Tuesday, April 18 - 6:00-8:30 p.m.
    Thursday, April 20 - 6:00-8:30 p.m.
    Tuesday, April 25 - 6:00-8:30 p.m.
    Thursday, April 27 - 5:00-9:00 p.m.  
     
    Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate which will allow the student to purchase a hunting license in Minnesota and any other states that require a certificate.

    SEPPAC (Special Ed Parent and Professional Advisory Council) Meeting

    Please join us for our last EPAT meeting of the school year on Monday, April 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the front office conference room. Please join us if you can.
     
    A limited supply of Locker Mates ($22) are available to keep your locker and yourself organized! Contact Ms. Mildenberger in the Front Office if you are interested in purchasing one. 
     
    Any school supplies and spirit wear are sold on behalf of EPAT. All funds are directed back to Edgewood for use by staff. 
     
    You can support Edgewood by participating in the below fundraisers:
     
    Food Taste Testing: Earn some extra $$CASH$$ and sample some really great food. All you have to do is log on and register at www.fpitesters.com.
     
    Box Tops: Please save all of your box tops and turn them in at Edgewood. There is a drop box in the front office of the school. This is just another way to earn money for our kids. Please be sure Box Tops are not expired as they will not accept
