    ORCHESTRA NEWS

Highview Middle School 7th and 8th grade orchestra students entered the annual Middle Level Orchestra Festival sponsored by the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association (MNSOTA) this past Monday, February 13.  The group traveled to Faribault, where they listened to two Middle School orchestras, worked with a guest clinician, and performed for two judges.  Both judges awarded Highview the highest possible rating, "Superior with Distinction".  As a result, Highview will receive a trophy and an additional performance opportunity later this year.  Annually, only 8-10 groups statewide receive the "Superior with Distinction" rating so Highview is among the top Middle School orchestras in the state.

HIGHVIEW STUDENT CHOSEN FOR MBDA HONOR BAND

8th grade tuba player,  Bill Ketola,  has been selected for membership in the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) 6-8 Grade Honor Band for the 2016-2017 school year. Bill was one of 86 students selected from 274 who auditioned for a position in this group.

The students participating will have the opportunity to work with some of the finest music educators in the state as their section coaches, and will be conducted by John Lace. The students will rehearse with John Lace on Saturday, April 22 at Chanhassen High School and will then perform a concert on Sunday, April 23 at Chanhassen High School.

The Honor Band program is an on-going project of MBDA, a professional organization of band directors representing band programs of all levels from throughout the state of Minnesota. The mission of MBDA is to assist in the development of band directors and band programs in schools, colleges, and communities throughout Minnesota.
