    Highview parents are invited to join Dr. Sheila Eller for some coffee and conversation on Tuesday, April 18 in the Highview Middle School Innovation Lab.   Choose one time:  7:30-8:15 AM; 11:30 AM -12:15 PM, or 6:30-7:15 PM

    Agenda items include:

    • Updates for the 2017-2018 School Year
    • The recent facilities study done by the District
    • Hawk Pride/The Highview Way
    • Creating a formal parent group

    SEEKING PARENT VOLUNTEERS FOR BOOK FAIR

    HIGHVIEW STUDENTS AND STAFF RECEIVE TRAINING

    Did you know that 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime?  Highview students and staff received training today from the Minnesota Epilepsy Association.  We learned about seizure and the different kinds of seizures and what might cause them, what to do if someone is having a seizure, and how to support people who have them. 

    Highview Middle School is now a Seizure Smart School.  Hawk Pride!


    WE NEED 6TH GRADE PARENTS TO CHAPERONE FIELD TRIP

    Highview 6th graders are visiting Kelley Farm on Tuesday, April 25th.  We are looking for 10-15 parents willing to help chaperone.  Chaperones would need to come to school at 8:00 AM.  The bus will return to Highview at approximately 2:45 PM.

    COMMUNITY EDUCATION UPDATE

    SPRING TESTING AT HIGHVIEW

    Spring is testing season at schools across the district and at Highview.   Please review the dates below and refer to teacher websites for more information. 

    April 17-20                  MCA Reading test        All Highview students

    April 21, 26, 27            MCA Math test             Highview 6th graders

    April 24-27                  MCA Math test             Highview 7th and 8th graders

    May 8 and 9                MCA Science test         Highview 8th graders

    May 10-12                   MAP test/Math             All students

    May 15-17                   MAP test/Reading        All students  

    We ask that you help us to ensure that students are in school and not schedule appointments on testing days unless they're ill. In addition, please help to assure that your student is well-rested and eats a good breakfast on testing days.

    Please encourage your student to give their best effort.  These test scores are one of many data points we use for course placement. 


    SPECIAL ED PARENT AND PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL INVITES YOU

    To Post-Secondary Planning:  School and Community Resources Success Night on Thursday, April 20 from 6:45-8:30 PM at Snail Lake Education Center IMC (350 W Highway 96, Shoreview).    A panel of past and present students, who have or a receiving special education services from the Mounds View Schools, will share their personal experiences preparing for and experiencing port-secondary success.  All parents, students, staff and community members are welcome at this event.  


    COMMUNITY ED SUMMER CAMPS

    Registration is now open for Mounds View Schools Community Education Summer Camps.  They offer a large number of STEAM classes that will educate, engage and motivate while being just plain FUN!  Whether your child is a budding artist, a serious scientist or enjoys knowing how things work.  There is something for everyone!  We also offer a large number of skill building sports for students entering grades 1 - 12.  

    During the summer, we accept students from other districts.  Sign up with a friend or relative to enjoy activities even more.  

    Register by May 15 and SAVE $10 per activity, discount given at checkout.

    COMEDY SPORTZ FUNDRAISER

    Please join Irondale’s KnightKrawler Robotics for their fourth annual ComedySportz FUNdraiser and Bake Sale on Saturday evening, April 1, at 7:00 PM  in the Irondale High School Auditorium, 2425 Long Lake Road, New Brighton. ComedySportz is improvisational comedy which features two teams of comedy actletes competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. It is great for all ages from kids to grandparents. Everyone has a good time and no one gets offended...it's anything but boring!  Advance tickets are $10; $12 at the door the night of the event.     2017 CHALKBOARD CAPERS SHOW WILL SOON BE HERE!

    The Chalkboard Capers Scholarship Show is a variety show that is written, directed, and performed by staff from the Mounds View School District in conjunction with the Mounds View Education Association. Please join us for a night of entertainment including short skits, singing, dancing, and musical delight. You are sure to leave laughing, crying, or at the very least, with a smile! The proceeds from this event provide scholarships for graduating students from the Mounds View School District. Your outstanding support in the past has made it possible for numerous scholarships to be awarded.

    Please help us again this year by purchasing your tickets early. All performances will be held at Irondale High School.  

    The 2017 performance schedule is as follows:

    Donations by individuals and businesses to the scholarship fund are an important part of Chalkboard Capers.  Additionally, donations of prizes for our children's show and gift card donations or adult raffle prize donations help support our cause. 

    For contributions valued at $50 or more, your business will be listed as a supporter of Chalkboard Capers with your printed business card in the 2017 show program.  Business names will be printed in the program for all other donations.  In addition, we encourage teachers to patronize your business and advertise your business in our monthly "Swap Sheet."  Finally, your business will be listed in the credits when the show is aired on Cable T.V. Channel 15.

    “WIN/WIN” PARENT PRESENTATION

    Please join presenters Carla Anton and Marty Spicer for a parent presentation at Edgewood Middle School (5100 Edgewood Drive, Mounds View) on Tuesday evening, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria.  The title is "WIN/WIN: An interactive program on how to create ongoing win/win respectful communications between parents and teens". This presentation is a winner for any parents to hear no matter what age of your children.  Be sure to register to win a $50 gift card to Aldi at this event.     6th GRADE PARENTS AND STUDENTS

    Mark your calendars!  We are very excited to announce an opportunity for our 7th grade students (2017-2018 School Year) to spend 3 days and 2 nights of educational and team-building activities in the north woods of Minnesota at the Laurentian Environmental Center. 

    Highview will have two trips.  The first trip will be Monday, October 23-25, 2017; the second trip will be Wednesday, October 25 through Friday, October 27, 2017.
