    Edgewood Middle School is committed to high quality instruction with the use of technology in order to meet the needs of all of our students.  

    A new app called Screencastify has been added to your student’s menu of options in order to complete projects for classroom assignments (for example:  Oral History in 7th grade). It is a great tool to record, edit, annotate, store, and share video and audio.    

    We continually evaluate technology tools to ensure they are appropriate and safe for our students’ ages, grade levels, and are relevant to their learning.  We want you to be aware of these tools so you can share in your child’s learning.

    Please contact your child’s ELA teacher if you have any questions regarding the use of of this technology tool.

    Thursday, June 1: Edgewood 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra @ Bethel University's Great Benson Hall. The concert will feature music from around the world and end with a finale featuring a full symphony piece. Students should arrive at Bethel at 6:20 p.m. 
    After all concerts listed above, Ralph Reeder Snack Pack reps will be here selling Culver's Custard in the cafeteria to help support the Snack Pack Program. Treat your talented student (and others!) to yummy custard and support a wonderful cause all at once!   
    Edgewood Fall Musical   shrek
    The Edgewood Drama Department is excited to announce that we will be performing "Shrek the Musical, Jr." next November 9, 10, & 11, 2017. We will be having an informational meeting for kids on Tuesday, May 30, after school for anyone interested in being in the production or helping behind the scenes.  Kids will be able to get script pages to practice over the summer for auditions next Fall.  Come and find out if being involved with an Edgewood musical would be fun for you! 
     Spring BOGO Book Fair  book fair
    The  Edgewood library is getting ready for our Spring Scholastic BOGO Book Fair on May 22-26! We are excited to get fun and engaging books into the hands of our students for the summer. We would love to have parent/grandparent or neighbor volunteers to help out at various times throughout the week.     These book fairs help support our ongoing efforts to encourage reading for fun and learning!

    Oral History Project oral history  
    Seventh Grade ELA students will be participating in an Oral History Project in which they will interview a community member and create a transcript of the interview. This project allows students to demonstrate the listening, speaking and writing skills that they have developed this year while giving them the valuable opportunity to hear stories and advice from members of a different generation.
    In order for this project to be a success, we need community members who are willing to be interviewed about their life and career. If you, or someone you know is available on Wednesday, May 24, and would be interested in this opportunity, please contact me and we can plan to have you in! We are looking for parents, grandparents, neighbors, family members or friends over the age of 18. You are welcome to help out for the entire day or just a portion.
    Interviews will be conducted during the following times:
    • 3rd period: 9:52 - 10:41
    • 4th period: 10:45 - 11:34
    • 5th period: 12:08 - 12:57
    • 6th period: 1:01 - 1:50
    • 7th period: 1:54 - 2:45

    School Forest Activity with Elementary Students
    On Friday, May 26, 5th grade classes from Sunnyside and Pinewood will be traveling to Edgewood's school forest to explore the outdoors, learn about ecosystems, remove invasive species and help plant trees! There will be a variety of stations set up throughout the forest that will be run by volunteers from the DNR, teachers, and Edgewood students! This is a very exciting opportunity for the 5th graders to participate in service learning, learn about the forest and about their new school for next year! 
    Spring STEAM Showcase  steam
    Our Spring STEAM Showcase will be held on Friday, June 2, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Come check out some of the amazing projects our students have done. We will also be in need of guest judges to come and be a part of the showcase from approximately 1:15-2:30. If you'd like to be a guest judge or would like more information on it, please contact Ms. LaPanta at darcy.lapanta@moundsviewschools.org. We appreciate your support!
    Grade Level Celebration Date  celebrate
    The grade level end-of-the-year Celebration date is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7. The sixth grade will go bowling at the Mermaid from 8:15-10:30 a.m., the seventh grade will go to the Wynnsong Movie Theater from 11:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and the 8th grade will go to Silver View Park from 9:00 am.-1:00 p.m. and will have their talent show from 1:00-2:45 p.m. Sixth & seventh graders will have their lunch at school and a grill-out will provided to the 8th graders at the parkA very special THANK YOU to EPAT for your contribution to the FREE fun day we have planned for the students!     Yearbooks will be distributed on this day. If you have not ordered a year book for your student, a limited amount of softcover books will be available for sale on that day for $20 each; however, 8th graders will have the option to buy first, 7th graders second, and 6th graders last.  
    Plastic Bag Recycling Contest
    Edgewood is holding a plastic bag recycling contest! Plastic bags are a huge problem for the environment, and we are trying to do our part. Please bring your empty plastic bags to your grade box in the lobby. At the end of the month, the boxes will be checked, weighed, and brought to the recycling center. The grade level winner will be announced at the end of the month.  
    Upcoming STEAM Field Trips fieldtrip  
    The "Picture Perfect Publishing" STEAM Class will be walking to Sunnyside Elementary on Friday, May 26, to share their completed children's books with the elementary students. Students will leave Edgewood at 1:20 p.m. and return to Edgewood by 2:45 p.m. 
    The "Puppets & You!" STEAM Class will be walking to Sunnyside Elementary on Friday, May 26. students will present their puppets and a short puppet show to a 4th grade class before leading a short workshop with the elementary students on puppeteering. Students will leave Edgewood at 1:20 p.m. and return to Edgewood by 2:45 p.m. Permission forms should be turned into Mr. Perucco ASAP. A copy of the permission form can be found here
    The "Big River Journey" STEAM Class will be going to the West Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park on Friday, May 26, and will take part in chemical, physical and biological river studies led by naturalists from the Three Rivers Park District. Students will leave Edgewood at 1:20 p.m. and return to Edgewood by 4:00 p.m.  

    The "EV3 Lego Robotics" STEAM Class will be traveling to the Minnesota Science Museum on Friday, May 26, to explore the new exhibit robotics in science and get ideas on how to present robotics for their showcase project.  The cost of the field trip is FREE! We will be leaving the school at the start of our Period 8 class and arriving back at the school around 3:50 pm so that students can catch the 4 pm after school bus.  Permission forms are due to the front office or Ms. Beethe by Thursday, May 25. A copy of the permission form can be found here.     STEAM Ahead to SUMMER!  train
    We are now accepting registrations for Mounds View Schools Community Education Summer Camps. Brochures are available at Edgewood in the Front Office and Student Services. Community Ed is offering a large number of STEAM classes that will educate, engage and motivate while being just plain FUN! Whether your child is a budding artist, a serious scientist or enjoys knowing how things work. There is something for everyone! We also offer a large number of skill building sports for students entering grades 1-12.  

    During the summer, we accept students from other districts. Sign up with a friend or relative to enjoy activities even more.  

    Registrations are accepted online or by mail only. Register by May 15 and SAVE $10 per activity, discount given at checkout.

    Phy Ed Department  shorts and shoes

    The Phy Ed Department is in need of the following items if you have any of these items at home that your student has outgrown:
    - Male Athletic Shorts:  For students to borrow if they do not have or forgot Gym shorts to change into for class.
    - Male Athletic Shoes (All sizes youth or larger):  For students to use that come to school without the proper footwear to participate during class.

    Our Integrated Science Classes will be making rockets with our 6th grade students this spring. To do this, they will need a large number of 2-liter bottles. Please rinse out any empty 2-liter pop bottles you may have and drop them off in the front office. Integrated Sciences are also still happy to take cardboard and other odds and ends for donation. Thank you!

    Edgewood is looking for new/gently used current trend clothing donations for our students in sizes S-XL. Any clothing will be appreciated; however, we are especially in need of teen girls' clothing. If you have items to donate, please drop off in the front office. Thank you!

    KnightKrawler Robotics at MSHSL Championship  steamworks

    Irondale's KnightKrawler Robotics team has qualified for this year's MSHSL Robotics Championship on  Saturday, May 20, at Mariucci Arena on the U of M Campus. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:15 a.m. followed by qualification matches and play-off rounds beginning at 4:00 p.m. The event is FREE so stop by and cheer them on!

    The Mounds View Police Department would like to remind our families about community safety, especially walking to and from school and at school bus stops. We would like our families to remind their students to be aware of unknown people and vehicles that may try to approach or speak with our kids. It is equally important to remind our kids to never approach a vehicle or person that they do not know, and to leave the area and get somewhere safe should this ever occur. We encourage all of our students and families to immediately report any suspicious behavior or incidents to the Police. Please take the time to speak with your student as their safety is important to all of us here at Edgewood and in the community.

    A limited supply of Locker Mates ($22) are available to keep your locker and yourself organized! Contact Ms. Mildenberger in the Front Office if you are interested in purchasing one. 
    Any school supplies and spirit wear are sold on behalf of EPAT. All funds are directed back to Edgewood for use by staff. 
    You can support Edgewood by participating in the below fundraisers:
    Food Taste Testing: Earn some extra $$CASH$$ and sample some really great food. All you have to do is log on and register at www.fpitesters.com.
    Box Tops: Please save all of your box tops and turn them in at Edgewood. There is a drop box in the front office of the school. This is just another way to earn money for our kids. Please be sure Box Tops are not expired as they will not accept
