    sick Influenza Absences

The following information will help you prevent the spread of influenza as well as help you determine when your child should stay home from school.

    What is influenza?
Influenza is an upper respiratory infection. Symptoms typically come on quickly and include fever over 100 degrees, headache, fatigue, sore throat, cough, and body aches. It is sometimes confused with the “stomach flu,” but influenza is not generally associated with vomiting and diarrhea.

How can we help minimize the spread?

    • Clean your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
    • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.
    • Do not share drinking cups or straws.
    • Clean commonly touched surfaces often (door knobs, refrigerator handles, phones, water faucets).
    • Keep students home from school if they are showing symptoms.
    • Get vaccinated.

    If your child becomes ill…

    • Please keep your student home from school if he or she is showing symptoms.
    • Students should remain home until 24 hours after their fever is gone without fever-reducing medication, such as Tylenol or Advil, and they are feeling well enough to participate in school.
    • If you are reporting your child’s absence due to illness, please leave information on the attendance line regarding symptoms (fever, sore throat, cough, body aches) to help us keep accurate records.
    • Contact your child's health care provider if your child has asthma or other chronic condition and is developing influenza-like symptoms.

Just a friendly reminder that if your child will be out ill or for any other reason, PLEASE call the 24-hour Attendance Line directly at 651-621-6601 and leave any pertinent information regarding your child's absence.

For more information, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/ healthservices.

    reminder After-School Pick-up

As a reminder, for the safety and security of all, students must either exit the building or be in a supervised after-school program at the end of the regular school day. If you pick up your student and cannot get here in time for the 2:45 p.m. release, students waiting for a ride must find a program to attend until their ride arrives. Thank you for your help in maintaining a safe school environment.

     ear buds Ear Bud Reminder

As we come to the middle of the school year, we'd like to remind all students and families that with the increase of technology use in our school, ear buds and/or headphones have become a necessary basic school supply and - similar to pencils - are something used every day in classrooms. Please check in with your Edgewood student to make sure that he or she still has working headphones or ear buds that can be left at school. If your student is in need of an extra pair of ear buds for class, Edgewood does have a vending machine available in the sixth grade hallway with ear buds for $1.50 each. (Please note: vending machine accepts quarters only.

Thank you for all the support you give your students and our school!

The mission of Concordia Language Villages is to prepare young people for responsible citizenship in our global community. Immersed in another language and culture, students gain a deeper perspective of the world through activities and sports, games, arts and crafts, singing and dancing, authentic meals and conversation with fluent speakers of the language. Concordia Language Villages celebrates diversity, unity, peace, stewardship and justice. Students return to their home classrooms energized and increasingly motivated to actively engage in language learning.

Students’ understanding can improve dramatically during a Village Weekend and encourage their enthusiasm for language learning. Students have continuous opportunities to use their present language skills at any level and develop a higher level of proficiency during fast-moving, activity-filled weekends. Meals are culturally authentic and are often named in evaluations as one of the best parts of the program.
