A new digital reading dashboard has been added to the Learning Center!  The students can use the dashboard to see real-time data of the top 5 books being read at Highview, the all-time highest rated books, which grade level is reading the most books, the top 5 authors, and what genre is getting the most action. The data is collected and updated in real-time when students fill out a short 5 question reading log each time they finish a book. The link to the reading log is available in ELA Google Classrooms or on the Learning Center website.  The purpose of the dashboard is to encourage students to talk about books they are reading, give students ideas of what to read next, and create healthy competition between grade levels to see who can read the most books.  Reading is the foundation to all learning and it is exciting when we find a new tool to promote literacy. Thanks to Hommocks Middle School in New York for the inspiration and great idea!

Highview’s Hawk’s Nest is looking for donations.  Students can receive “Gotcha Tickets” from staff for a multitude of great reasons… Being a good friend, being on time, doing their best, working hard in class, etc.  Students can “spend” these tickets in the school store called, The Hawk’s Nest.

We are asking for help stocking The Hawk’s Nest with these items that  students have requested – Dum Dum suckers, Orbit Gum (14 piece packs), Rice Krispy Treats (singles), chips (individual servings), popsockets, fidget cubes, fun-size candy (no peanuts please), Chex Mix (individual servings).

Donated items can be brought to the school office.  We thank you, in advance, for helping us to promote positive behavior in our students at Highview.  Hawk Pride!
