    For Families

    This month, our school wide theme is friendship skills. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students to invite others to play, play in fair ways, take responsibility for mistakes by making amends, and how to handle name-calling assertively. These skills help students make and keep friends.

    Second Step lessons specifically teach these friendship skills. You will be receiving Home Links describing why friendship skills are important and including fun activities to do with your child to help him or her learn and practice the skills.


    Volunteers are still needed for the following role:
    • Selling Merchandise for a 2 to 2.5 hour shift during the fair:
                            Monday, March 26 from 3:00 to 5:30 pm (1 slot)
                            Wednesday, March 28 from 3:00 to 5:30 pm (2 slots)
    Volunteers receive SPECIAL INCENTIVES, including chances to win free books! Volunteer and automatically be entered in a drawing for a $25 certificate good toward books or merchandise at the fair. Your name can be entered multiple times, once for each shift you work.

    Plan ahead for next fall’s schedule

    In spring 2017, the School Board approved start time changes that go into effect for all schools starting this fall. To download a 2018-19 daily schedule for any school, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/starttimes.



    Orchestra Notes 
    Mark your calendars! Students who are currently enrolled in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in the District 621 Summer Orchestra program. The dates are July 9-August 2, Mondays-Thursdays. Classes are 50 minutes and they are scheduled at various locations across the district, starting as early as 7am or as late as 7pm.  Current 6th and 7th grade students can participate in the Middle School Camp, July 23-27.
    The online registration window now open for students who are currently in grades 4-7. Families can access the online registration form by logging into ParentVue and then clicking on FeePay. The online registration window will close on May 1st.
    Current 3rd grade students or any older beginning orchestra students will register at one of our spring registration nights:
    • Tuesday, May 8 - 5:00-6:30pm, Turtle Lake gymnasium
    • Wednesday, May 9 - 5:00-6:30pm, Island Lake gymnasium
    • Monday, May 15 - 5:00-6:30pm, Irondale High School cafeteria

    Celebrate Success

    The District's annual Celebrate Success event is slated for April 26 from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. The District Center (4570 Victoria Street N, Shoreview) will host Mounds View Public Schools families, friends and community members for a panel presentation featuring past and present students who are receiving or have received special education services. The panel presentation will focus on post-secondary planning and will include students' experiences in Mounds View schools as well as their plans and aspirations for post-secondary success.

    Hello from Chalkboard Capers,

    This year is the 34th Annual Chalkboard Capers Variety Show. It will be presented April 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th. This show is organized by staff, run by staff, performed by staff. The proceeds go to scholarships for high school seniors in our district.  

    Here are the ways you could help us out with the show:

    • Donating new items or gift cards for our children’s or adult raffles.
    • If you or someone you know has a business, purchase an advertisement in our program by submitting at least $50.00 and your business card.

    Student Safety:
    In order to ensure the safety of students during arrival and dismissal, we will be closing the lower parking lot from 8:15 – 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 – 3:45 p.m.  ALL students being transported by parents to and from school need to be dropped off/ picked up using the carpool lane in the back of the building.  We appreciate your support in using the carpool lane to ensure the safety of all.

    Building Security Procedures
    A visitor screening system helps track visitors and volunteers at each school, providing a safe and monitored environment for students and staff. When parents come to pickup their child(ren), or visitors check in, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system.
