    WE NEED 6TH GRADE PARENTS TO CHAPERONE FIELD TRIP

    Highview 6th graders are visiting Kelley Farm on Thursday, April 12th.  We are looking for 10-15 parents willing to help chaperone.  Chaperones would need to come to school at 8:00 AM.  The bus will return to Highview at approximately 2:45 PM.

    Congratulations to Highview teacher, Stacey Olinger! Stacey is receiving the Chalkboard Capers Award of Teacher/Citizen of the Year! She will be honored with this award at the Chalkboard Capers performance on Saturday, April 7 at the evening show. Hawk Pride!!

    COMMUNITY EDUCATION NEWS

    Registration is now open for spring activities:  Flag Football, Boys and Girls Tennis and Co-ed Track.  Register online at https://www.moundsviewschools.org/youthprograms or get a paper form in the school office. 

     


    PLAN AHEAD FOR NEXT FALL’S SCHEDULE

    In spring 2017, the School Board approved start time changes that go into effect for all schools starting this fall. To download a 2018-2019 daily schedule for any school, visit www.moundsviewschools.org/starttimes.

     


    HIGHVIEW TEACHERS SELECTED FOR CODE.ORG OPPORTUNITY

    Highview teachers Mike Miller, Eddie Chamberlain, Sean Humphreys and Jeremy Squires have been selected to participate in Code.org's 2018-19 Professional Learning Program for Computer Science Discoveries. The Computer Science Discoveries Professional Learning program kicks off this summer with five-day workshop filled with hands-on computer science curriculum. Access to online support and quarterly workshops will continue throughout the 2018-2019 school year. 


    IMPORTANT TEST DATES

    Highview students will be taking MCA tests in their Math, ELA and 8th grade Science classes in April.  The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) is designed to measure each student’s level of proficiency, as compared to state standards, in the subject areas of math, reading and science (grade 8 only).  Please try to make sure your student is to school on time and well-rested on testing dates.   Please try to avoid taking your student out of school for appointments on these dates.

    UPCOMING HIGHVIEW 8TH TO 9TH GRADE TRANSITION EVENTS

    A number of events have been planned to help support the transition of our Highview 8th graders into high school next year.   

    8th Graders visit High Schools: April 13, 2018 9:45am-11:00am.  Highview 8th Graders tour the high school that they will attend and learn about life in high school, including academic and co-curricular opportunities.

    Mounds View High School Fall Co-Curriculum Day: May 16, 2018 6:30pm at MVHS.  8th Grade students & families invited to learn about co-curricular opportunities at MVHS. 

    HS Deans and Student Mentors Q&A with 8th Graders: May 22, 2018 11:30am- 12:30pm.  Deans and student mentors from both high schools will meet with 8th Grade students at Highview to answer questions about life in high school.

    "Spring into Fall" Irondale High School Co-Curriculum Day: May 30, 2018 6:30pm at IDHS.  8th Grade students & families invited to learn about co-curricular opportunities at IDHS.

    DONATIONS NEEDED

    Highview’s Hawk’s Nest is looking for donations.  Students can receive “Gotcha Tickets” from staff for a multitude of great reasons… Being a good friend, being on time, doing their best, working hard in class, etc.  Students can “spend” these tickets in the school store called, The Hawk’s Nest. 

    We are asking for help stocking The Hawk’s Nest with these items that  students have requested – Dum Dum suckers, Orbit Gum (14 piece packs), Rice Krispy Treats (singles), chips (individual servings), popsockets, fidget cubes, fun-size candy (no peanuts please), Chex Mix (individual servings). 

    Donated items can be brought to the school office.  We thank you, in advance, for helping us to promote positive behavior in our students at Highview.  Hawk Pride!
