NEW DEAN AT HIGHVIEW 2018-2019, LAST NAMES O-Z

Current dean of students with last names O-Z, Caleb Bjorklund, will be taking a leave of absence during the 2018-19 school year and moving to Haiti in June.   This is a once-in- a -lifetime opportunity for his family to immerse themselves in another country and culture.  He will be working in an orphanage and school outside of Port au Prince, the capital of Haiti.   He will be returning to the district for the 2019-20 school year.

Replacing Mr. Bjorklund will be Nathan Johnson.  Mr. Johnson comes to Highview Middle School as a dean of students from Edgewood Middle School.  He has been with the Mounds View School District for eleven years.  While with Mounds View he has worked in several capacities.  Nathan has led the STAND program, he has served as a science teacher and has worked extensively with the development of the STEAM and the Integrated Sciences program.  Nathan attended North Park University in Chicago and received a BS in Biology as an undergraduate.  He received his Master's degree and Principal Licensure from Hamline University.  Nathan and his wife Gretchen live in South Minneapolis and recently adopted their first child, Miriam, in October of this past fall.  In his free time Nathan enjoys hunting, traveling, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family and two dogs at the lake.  Nathan is very excited to join the team over at Highview Middle School and to get to know the students, staff and families that make up the Hawk community.

    DONATIONS NEEDED

Highview’s Hawk’s Nest is looking for donations.  Students can receive “Gotcha Tickets” from staff for a multitude of great reasons… Being a good friend, being on time, doing their best, working hard in class, etc.  Students can “spend” these tickets in the school store called, The Hawk’s Nest.

We are asking for help stocking The Hawk’s Nest with these items that  students have requested – Dum Dum suckers, Orbit Gum (14 piece packs), Rice Krispy Treats (singles), chips (individual servings), popsockets, fidget cubes, fun-size candy (no peanuts please), Chex Mix (individual servings).

Donated items can be brought to the school office.  We thank you, in advance, for helping us to promote positive behavior in our students at Highview.  Hawk Pride!
