We are pleased to invite all incoming 6th graders and their families to Edgewood this summer for a 3 + 1 goal setting session. At this meeting your Dean will get to you know you and your child while establishing a 3 + 1 academic plan for success. The dean will be your primary contact for your student on issues related to academic planning, grades, and support for social/emotional needs.
It is important that we meet with you and your child prior to the start of the school year to discuss your student's academic plan and the best ways to support your child's learning. A successful middle school experience will ensure a smooth transition to high school.

Back-to-School Orientation & Picnic
Please join us for our Back-to-School Orientation and Picnic on Monday, August 27, from 4:00-7:30 p.m.
EPAT FAMILY PICNIC (4:30 - 6:00 p.m.)- Come for food, meet the staff and connect with other Edgewood families. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Pizza, fruit, lemonade, water and dessert will be served and will be provided at no cost.
ORIENTATION (4:00 - 7:30 p.m.) - Drop off forms, pick up class schedules/locker assignments, take Lifetouch school pictures and find out about after-school activities. Shop at the School Store and visit with EPAT reps to find out more about EPAT and the new Spirit Wear Webstore available soon. Meet the teachers! They will be in their rooms from 5:00-7:30 p.m.
If you are unable to make Monday's Orientation and Picnic, there is an ORIENTATION available on Friday, August 24, from 7:00-10:00 a.m. to attend.
Picture Day Information
Lifetouch will be at Edgewood during the Orientation sessions on August 24 & 27. Flyers were sent home via back-to-school mailings. If you've misplaced your form, you can print out a copy here or you can order online here.
In the Middle Day, a special day for 6th grade students ONLY will take place on Tuesday, September 4. Free breakfast will be provided!The day will be filled with activities that will help acclimate 6th graders to their new school. Students will practice opening their locker, walking their schedule, familiarizing themselves with the building and participating in some team building activities.All grades will attend classes beginning Wednesday, September 5.

Mark your calendar for next year's 7th Grade LEC Trip. 7th Grade Immunizations
Please be sure your 7th grader's immunizations are up-to-date with a Tdap booster and a Meningococcal immunization! Students who were enrolled at Edgewood in 6th grade and in need of immunizations received a letter with information specific to your student. This information will be required for your student to receive his or her class schedule. Please submit the needed immunization information to Edgewood’s Health Office by Friday, August 17. Does your student take medication, have a chronic condition, or have other health needs that will impact his or her school day? Remember that we need updated orders from the prescribing healthcare provider for any prescribed medications needed at school on a scheduled, emergency, or as needed basis. Medications brought to school must be in their original container with a current pharmacy label attached. Need an extra bottle? Ask at the pharmacy at your next refill! - All students in grades 6 - 8 are encouraged to get involved and participate. No experience is necessary.
- Students are to receive an equal opportunity for playing time during practices and competitions. Emphasis is placed on skill development, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
- Parents are invited and encouraged to come to competitions and support their children.
- Transportation will be provided to and from all games/matches. It is the parents'/guardians' responsibility to pick up students after the competition. Failure to do so will result in your student not participating on the next scheduled activity date.
NEW THIS FALL Running club will be offered two days per week at all three middle schools for students in grades 6 - 8 that enjoy running without competitions. Click here to register.
Sports available this fall are: Soccer, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, and Volleyball. Sports will begin the week of September 12, with the exception of Volleyball which will begin the week of October 29. Schedules for each sport an be found below:

Irondale Bowling Team
Irondale High School has a Bowling team - yes, a Bowling team. The team is coed and grades 7–12 grade are welcome. Practices are on Mondays at 3:45 p.m. at the Mermaid, with the exception of the Tuesday after Labor Day and begin Monday, August 13. Competitions are held on Fridays beginning in September at area Bowling centers with matches starting at 3:45 p.m. The Irondale Bowling team competes in the Minnesota High School Bowling League. The season wraps up in mid –November. All participants must provide their own transportation to and from all practices and matches. Girls Cross Country
Irondale Girls Cross Country is expanding to a 7-12 program. We would love to have girls interested in running to be part of the high school team. Athletes will run the same meets, be part of all team bonding events, get to experience, and create relationships before transitioning to the high school and start or continue building their Knight Pride! The only difference middle school athletes may see is an adjusted training schedule (not as many miles) and some shorter races (two miles instead of 5k). The season starts Monday, August 13. Practices are every day Monday - Saturday. We would love to help show you what a great life long activity running can be. Come join! Girls Fitness Club
Calling all girls entering grades 8 - 12 in the Fall 2018. Join the Girls Fitness Club this summer. We will spend the first hour doing a combination of cardiovascular exercises, strength training and yoga. The last half hour will be spent either discussing a health related topic or cooking together. We will cook a healthy meal together once a week! The topics we will discuss includes hydration, stretching, nutrition, sleep, stress, and more! We will meet for six (6) weeks, three (3) times a week and will only cost you $100.00! Seventh and eighth grade athletes who wish to participate on an Irondale High School sports team will register online. Before you begin your online registration, approval must be obtained from the middle school principal or dean, the high school principal, activities director and coach. In addition, signatures from both student and parent/guardian are also required.
