Valentine Hills New RoadReader Library!
Our Valentine Hills Roadrunners now have a little library to become Roadreaders. A huge thanks to the Donahue family for their donation of the library to the school and to our fourth graders for painting it last year! Please participate in our lending and borrowing community this year.
Lead Testing in our Schools
Elevated levels of lead in water can be harmful if consumed. That’s why Mounds View Public Schools works with IEA (Institute for Environmental Assessment) to conduct tests every five years as IEA recommends.
As part of our 2016 testing at Valentine Hills, all of our building’s drinking fountains were found to be at EPA-acceptable levels for drinking.
In 2016, some of our classroom sinks were found to have elevated levels of lead. As a result, the school has been taking several steps to ensure that students are drinking safe water, including the installation of “NO DRINKING” signs at classroom sinks and guiding and monitoring students to drink and fill water bottles from fountains only. Even in cases where lead levels were found to be below EPA-acceptable levels, Valentine Hills has installed lead-reduction filters on all of the drinking fountains, the staff lounge sink and the health office sink.
