SOCIAL LEARNING UPDATESAs our students continue their journey through our Social Emotional Learning lessons with Mr. Alexander, they will be learning all about Hidden Rules and Expected & Unexpected behaviors. Here are some common language you can try using at home with them.
- Hidden rules: are the behavioral expectations we commonly associate with a situation/place, but that are not typically said out loud when you arrive
- Expected Behaviors: are those behaviors that make sense for the place you are and the situation you’re in
- Unexpected Behaviors: are those behaviors that may make people uncomfortable or confused because they don’t fit the situation or place you’re in
All of our kindergarteners will have a chance to hear about how it feels to go somewhere new, and that the unexpected can feel a bit scary but that we all have the tools to discover the hidden rules! We will also talk about how unexpected behavior can make others feel and how we can show empathy in new situations.
