This month, our schoolwide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and school assembly we’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Second Step lessons specifically teach about empathy. You’ll be receiving Home Links describing why empathy is important and including fun activities to do with your child to help them identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion. We hope you find them helpful.
Please tell your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.

Photo Withhold Form
Parents may withhold permission to have their student photographed and/or videotaped during school-day classroom activities, learning experiences, and/or media events. Please complete and return this form ONLY if you do NOT wish for Mounds View Public Schools to publish your student's appearance, image or name on any recorded medium. This Publish Opt Out Release is applicable and valid for up to 12 months from the date of signature.Riding the Bus and Food/DrinkWhile riding the bus, students are expected to keep all food and drink in their backpacks. In order to ensure the safety of students during arrival and dismissal, we will be closing the lower parking lot from 8:05 – 8:35 a.m. and 3:05 – 3:35 p.m. ALL students being transported by parents to and from school need to be dropped off/ picked up using the carpool lane in the back of the building. We appreciate your support in using the carpool lane to ensure the safety of all.
Building Security Procedures
A visitor screening system helps track visitors and volunteers at each school, providing a safe and monitored environment for students and staff. When parents come to pickup their child(ren), or visitors check in, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system.
