Hello!

My name is Katie Beckstrand, and I am a Special Education Teacher in the Birth - 2 Years Old Program. My office is at the Early Childhood Education Center in New Brighton, though during the week I am often in homes working with wonderful families and children all over our district! 

I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, but moved to the great state of Minnesota for college and graduated from the College of Saint Benedict. I then taught in preschool programs in Minnesota and then in uptate New York. I received my Masters from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York in Early Childhood and Special Education.  My teaching experience has been both in classroom preschool programs and in providing in-home services. I am also certified in DIR Floortime therapy, which is a play-based therapy.

With Mounds View School District, I have taught in both the Birth-2 program and the 3-5 year old preschool programs. I love my job because of the variety I get in working with both children and families. And of course with working with young children, no two days are ever the same! My passion is supporting and collaborating with families who have children in Special Education.
