Orchestra is open to all string players. A variety of string literature is studied throughout the year including standard orchestral literature, alternative styles, world music and original concert works.The study of symphonic works and string chamber music is included when possible. Objectives include but are not limited to, development of rhythm and pitch accuracy as an individual and as an ensemble, advanced string techniques, increased knowledge of music theory, music history and music terms and a greater appreciation for music. Students are expected to be involved in daily rehearsals, participate in concerts and complete semester assignments and evaluations. Individual practice is required, and private lessons are encouraged.
Class activities will include: warm ups, sight reading and technical exercises, sectionals, large group rehearsal, tests, class discussion, peer coaching and assessments to measure progress and to create musical growth. Public performances will provide important musical experiences for both the students and the community.
