Mounds View Public School Preschool 3’s & PreKindergarten 4’s programs use a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate curriculum called the Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum uses exploration and discovery as a way of learning for children to develop confidence, creativity and lifelong critical thinking skills. This research based curriculum is aligned to our Minnesota Early Learning Standards known as the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPs).
Children are authentically observed in their natural environment in all areas of our school with the Teaching Strategies Gold assessment tool. Ongoing observations allow teachers to modify their lesson plans for individualized instruction and are aligned to the Creative Curriculum goals and objectives.
Supplemental curricula may include ezWrite Handwriting, Jolly Phonics, Second Step & MN Reading Corps SEEDS of Early Learning literacy materials.
Children do well in predictable and structured routines. We combine structure with play based learning opportunities. Research shows that play is important for healthy brain development. Through play, children gain valuable knowledge about the world and how to get along with others. Play allows children to try out new ideas and to find out what their bodies can do.
