Students will read, discuss, and respond to a wide range of fiction and nonfiction materials (print, text, audio, visual). We will follow the reader's/writer's workshop model- which allows for a lot of student choice. Students will have weekly individual conferences with teachers to "show what they know", ask specific questions, and monitor progress.
2 personal conferences (each day of in-class instruction)
3 writing prompts (2 in-class and 1 distance- 2+ paragraphs each)
60 minutes of reading (each week: 30 in-class and 30 distance- book of choice)
Attend 2 mini-lessons (in class: 10 minutes each-show understanding of concept)
Independent Choice (choose from each category & show progress each week)
