no school End of Quarter - No School
Just a friendly reminder that Wednesday, January 24, is the end of Quarter 2 and there is no school on Thursday, January 25, and Friday, January 26
    reminder Please Read
As a reminder, for the safety and security of all, students must either exit the building or be in a supervised after-school program at the end of the regular school day. If you pick up your student and cannot get here in time for the 2:45 p.m. release, students waiting for a ride must find a program to attend until their ride arrives. Thank you for your help in maintaining a safe school environment.
    registration 9th Grade Registration Information
Edgewood Deans recently met with all 8th grade students to discuss Irondale 9th grade registration and course options for the 2018-2019 school year. Please look for registration materials to be sent home this week with your student. Our hope is that families will take the time to review and make any final revisions on course selections, prior to the official registration window closing on February 5. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s dean. We will be doing final registration during the school day at Edgewood on Monday, February 5. If you have any questions, please contact your student's dean.
     ear buds Ear Bud Reminder

As we come to the middle of the school year, we'd like to remind all students and families that with the increase of technology use in our school, ear buds and/or headphones have become a necessary basic school supply and - similar to pencils - are something used every day in classrooms. Please check in with your Edgewood student to make sure that he or she still has working headphones or ear buds that can be left at school. If your student is in need of an extra pair of ear buds for class, Edgewood does have a vending machine available in the sixth grade hallway with ear buds for $1.50 each. (Please note: vending machine accepts quarters only.)

Thank you for all the support you give your students and our school!

Our Winter STEAM Showcase will be held on Wednesday, January 24, from 1:30-2:45 p.m. Our Winter Showcase is typically just "in-house" with community judges who give feedback to students about their project. It is run through the regular STEAM class time from 1:16-2:45. However, parents are always welcome to come and see their students' work!
We are STILL IN NEED of guest judges. If you'd like to be a guest judge or would like more information on Winter STEAM Showcase, please contact Ms. LaPanta at darcy.lapanta@moundsviewschools.org. We appreciate your support!

    unity Unity Event Volunteers Needed
We would like to cordially invite you to join us at this year's Unity Event on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 2:45-4:30 p.m. The Unity Event is in place at Edgewood to help students celebrate the wealth of diversity that exists within our school building and the community. In our school, we have students from all different walks of life, who speak different languages and have unique traditions.
We are looking for family volunteers to come in that day to talk about their culture and why it is special. Volunteers will be asked to bring in artifacts, clothing, photos, or games that are relevant to their culture and share it with students. If you choose to volunteer, you will be stationed at a table where you are able to lay out information about your culture. Students will then walk around from table to table engaging in authentic conversations about the different countries represented that day.
If you are interested in helping out in another way other than presenting, we would still love to have you involved.
If this event sounds like something you want to be a part of, please contact our volunteer coordinator at shannon.mildenberger@moundsviewschools.org or if you'd like more information about the event, please reach out to the event coordinators, Mr. Reed or Mr. Van House.

    goosecloggers Music at Mounds View

Tickets are on sale now for the next concert in the Music at Mounds View series. The Wild Goose Cloggers will perform on Saturday evening, February 3, at 7:00 p.m.

The Wild Goose Chase Cloggers was established in 1979 and consists of 13 energetic dancers accompanied by the lively music of Chicken Sedan.Clogging is an American style of dance that, like so many American folk styles, has its roots in the Appalachian region of the south. Clogging itself comes from three separate traditions. The type of foot movements derive from early African-American buck dancing, or flat-footing, which featured percussion created by foot movements and hand and body slapping. Plantations in North America eventually outlawed slaves from playing drums, but permitted the percussive sound of the banjo. Buck dancing usually accompanied the fiddle and banjo pairing and created even more percussion to the combination. The other components of clogging are English step dancing, and Native American dance, particularly from the Cherokee.
    Tickets can be purchased here.
