Class of 2020

Virtual Graduation

  • Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Irondale High School is developing a singular, comprehensive virtual graduation event.  This video ceremony will recreate many elements of our typical graduation ceremony, including visual and audio recognition of each individual graduate.  We will invite anyone interested to a live-streamed virtual watch party and invite families to watch the event simultaneously.

    Date: Monday, June 1
    Time: 7 p.m.

The ceremony will be premiering on YouTube and the video/link will be available on this page as the event begins.

We encourage students to wear their cap and gown as they watch the ceremony. Please share photos of your graduate using the hashtag #IrondaleKnights2020 on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) or by emailing

Optional photo opportunity

  • We are excited to offer the Irondale Class of 2020 an opportunity to have a full-length professional photo taken while wearing their cap and gown on Thursday, May 28. This optional photo opportunity will be offered at no cost and each graduate will receive a high-resolution digital image to print or share with family and friends.

The professional photographer will be taking photos outside of Irondale High School. Photos will be taken using a drive-through format to minimize contact with others. Please see the details and times for photos below. This will ensure that no large groups are gathering at once.

    • A-Ga 12-1 p.m.
    • Ge-Me 1-2 p.m.
    • Mi-St 2-3 p.m.
    • Su-Z 3-4 p.m.
    • 4-5 p.m. - any seniors who could not attend their assigned time

Please refer to this email sent to senior families on May 22 for safety precautions and details.

Video information

  • The ceremony will stream live below. The video will activate at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 1.

Once the video begins playing, click the button in the lower right corner of the video to increase the video size to fullscreen, or watch directly on YouTube here.

As this is live video, you will not be able to fast-forward or rewind during the ceremony. Once the live version has ended, the video will be available on the District's YouTube channel permanently.

  • Graduation-in-a-box pickup (along with school-issued materials collection) took place Thursday May 21, and Friday, May 22. What is ‘Grad-in-a-Box’? "Grad in a Box" is a collection of important items you will need (including your cap and gown) to be prepared for your virtual commencement ceremony on June 1, 2020. You can learn more about the process and guidelines for picking up your items in this email message sent to senior families on May 18.

If you did not receive your graduation items, please email

    School-issued materials collection:

For more details, as well as instructions for returning your items, see the email message sent to families on May 18 here.

In-person Ceremony

  • Students consistently told us they want some type of in-person event.  We have tentatively scheduled an in-person graduation event for the evening of Thursday, July 30, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium for interested students and families.  This is, of course, entirely dependent on safety conditions and recommendations from the CDC as the event date nears.  We will share more information about this in the coming weeks and will share regular status updates as CDC recommendations evolve.
