I teach Government, US History, and Work-Based Learning at the ALC. I have been teaching Social Studies since 1996 and enjoy learning new things from students.  I believe in the unique abilities of each student and I want them to think critically about the world about them.  As the Work Based Learning instructor, I teach students essential job skills and can award credit to students who are employed.   All assignments for my classes can be found and completed in Google Classroom.  Feel free to contact me with questions, comments or concerns.

Class Descriptions

Government

The goal of this course is to help students become informed and active citizens and voters. We will do this by exploring our own political beliefs, discussing controversial topics that are impacting our lives today and examining the conflicts leaders and citizens navigate each day.

US History

The United States was born out of land populated by Indigenous people and grew into a mighty empire on the back of free labor.  Along the way, historical people and events were identified as worthy of celebration.  But whose story is missing?  You’ll have a chance to explore this question as we study US History and make connections to today.

Work-Based Learning

This class is about gaining the skills necessary to be successful in the work force.  We’ll work on goal setting, communicating effectively, building resumes, interview skills, problem solving and other "soft skills" essential to all jobs.  Financial literacy, time and stress management will also be addressed.

On the Job Training (OJT)

Earn credit for having a job! Students can earn up to .50 credit for working as little as 10 hours per week.  Students are required to provide pay stubs as proof of employment and be enrolled in Work Based Learning or meet individually with Paul
