    If you have special considerations you would like to have taken into account for the placement of your student for next year, you can obtain a Student Information Form from the Bel Air Office to fill out and return by Friday, May 6, 2016.  Information on this form will be shared with the classroom teachers as they make the classroom assignments for next year.  


     In planning for the new school year, we would like to know if your child will not be with us for the school year.  We want to be as informed as possible about our student population so we can carefully plan for the year ahead.  If your child is not returning, please fill in the form below and return it to your child’s teacher by Friday, May 6.  Thank you for your assistance.

There are items available for as low as $7 and there are several styles to choose from for both youth and adults. Simply visit the website listed below to place your order using a credit card.     Drumline On Saturday, the Irondale drumline completed an undefeated regular season by winning the Minnesota State Championship with a score of 91.0.  This marks the drumline's third state championship in the past four years.  There will be a free send-off performance this Saturday, April 9, at Irondale at 6pm in preparation for departing for the World Championships next week.

    When you begin to make your summer vacation plans, please keep in mind the summer band program offered for students going into 6th grade. For students who are currently playing in 5th grade band, INTRODUCTION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND is a full band rehearsal offered Mondays-Thursdays (beginning on Tuesday, July 5) for five weeks from 12:00-12:45 at Chippewa Middle School and Highview Middle School or 3:30-4:15 at Edgewood Middle School. The program concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Your school band teacher will be sending home registration forms with band members in April. Forms should be completed and returned to school.


    Starting the summer after 4th or 5th grade your child can begin participating in a curricular activity that continues through 12th grade and into adult life - THE SCHOOL BAND.

    The summer beginning band instruction program consists of a 45-minute small-group lesson, Monday through Thursday, for five weeks starting Tuesday, July 5 through Thursday, August 4. The summer session concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Instruction will be offered at all district elementary schools during the morning and at Edgewood Middle School in the evening. Students may choose from the following band instruments: Trombone, Baritone, Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Flute, Saxophone, Tuba and Percussion. School instruments are available for students with financial need. If at all possible, STUDENTS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN BAND IN 5TH GRADE SHOULD START BEGINNING INSTRUCTION THE SUMMER BEFORE. When you begin to make your summer plans, please keep in mind the importance of starting band instruction during our summer program. Your school band teacher will be sending information home with your child in April. Specific information about summer band class times and locations will be available at that time.

     Registration for Beginning Band will take place at any of the six evening Band Displays at which reputable music instrument dealers will also be present to provide instrument rentals for you. You should attend only one of the Band Displays anytime between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. Band Display dates and locations are: 

    Monday, April 18 at Valentine Hills Elementary School

    Tuesday, April 19 at Turtle Lake Elementary School

    Thursday, April 21 at Sunnyside Elementary School

    Monday, April 25 at Pinewood Elementary School

    There has been a recent outbreak in instrument sales from non-music vendors (department store catalogs, discount membership warehouses, on-line purchases and private party sales). These instruments are often inexpensive and poorly constructed. These instruments generally require frequent repairs that cannot be corrected and we encourage you to stay clear of these options. Reputable music dealers are the best resource for renting or purchasing a band instrument. Please see your school band director if you have questions about purchasing an instrument.


     Orchestra Summer Orchestra is Coming Soon!!!


    To Students in Grade 3:

    Students who have finished grade 3 may learn to play a stringed instrument this summer. 

    Orchestra is great fun and builds skills for a lifetime of enjoying music!

    Save July 5 – August 4 on your family’s calendar.

    Lessons are held Monday through Thursday (4 days per week) for one hour each day in the morning between 7 a.m. and 2PM at Turtle Lake, Island Lake, Valentine Hills, Bel Air, Sunnyside, or Pinewood Schools. 

    Late afternoon/early evening lessons will take place between 3 and 8 p.m. at Chippewa or Irondale Schools.

    Our final concert is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 at 6:30 PM at Irondale High School. A final celebration is August 4 in the morning at Chippewa.

    Students may register for classes even if summer camp or family vacation occurs during the same time frame.  Make up classes for those who miss an entire week of class will be offered on Mondays at Chippewa.

    Beginners register for lessons, enroll in classes, and arrange to rent a violin, viola, or cello between 5:00 and 6:30 PM on the dates listed below:  

    Orchestra Registration Dates and Locations

    Tuesday, May 10 at Turtle Lake Elementary School

    Thursday, May 12 at Island Lake School

    Monday, May 16 at Irondale High School

    Beginner classes are filled on a first come basis. Students may register at any school. More detailed information about orchestra will be sent home with all third graders in May.

     To Orchestra students currently in Grades 4 and 5:

    Students who are already enrolled in orchestra may obtain a summer registration form for SUMMER STRINGS from their orchestra teacher or download one for the summer website:

    Summer Orchestra dates are July 5 – August 4.  We will have a concert on Wednesday, August 3 and final celebration on August 4.  Lessons are held Monday through Thursday for one hour each day.

    All students in grades 4 and 5 who ARE NOT currently in orchestra are welcome to join summer orchestra.  Please attend one of the orchestra registration dates that are listed above.

    Comedy FUNdraiser

    Do you like improv comedy like the t.v. show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"? Then you will love ComedySportz!  Please join Irondale FIRST Robotics Team 2052 for our third annual ComedySportz FUNdraiser and Bake Sale on Friday Evening, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Irondale High School Auditorium.  Come enjoy a family-friendly night of comedy and check out some of our former competition robots.
