Summer Send Off Letter

A Message from Principal Johnson

Hello Turtle Lake families,

You continue to be in my thoughts, and I sincerely hope your family is well. I want to thank you for your partnership during distance learning. I am proud of the entire Turtle Lake community-students, parents, teachers and staff, for embracing and persevering through this new learning experience. It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is drawing near. We want to provide students, especially our fifth graders, with an opportunity for closure.

Beginning on June 1, no new content will be presented. Instead, teachers will be providing intentional end of the year virtual experiences for students. This will be a time for teachers and students to reflect, connect, and have fun during the last week of school.

We would also like to invite you to our Summer Send Off. During this time, students, families, teachers and staff will be able to return to Turtle Lake to say good-bye before heading into summer. To participate, simply drive to Turtle Lake and take your first left into the school parking lot where teachers and staff will be positioned along the sidewalk (similar to our spring distribution route). Please note that your safety is important to us. Throughout your visit, you will stay in your vehicle, and staff will be following all recommended guidelines, including social distancing, for the safety of everyone.

Tuesday, June 2 - Grade 1, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Tuesday, June 2 - Grade 2, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Wednesday, June 3 - Grade 3, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Wednesday, June 3 - Grade 4, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Thursday, June 4 - Grade 5, 10:00 - 2:00 pm

This will also be a time for you to return the following items to school:

  • Library books

  • Classroom library books

  • Guided reading books

  • School owned band instruments

  • Other items (clearly labeled)

If you have items to return, please put the items in a bag and place them in your trunk. After waving to teachers and staff, you will be able to stop near the gym doors, pop your trunk, and a staff member will gather your items. Please stay in your vehicle at all times.

CHROMEBOOKS:

Unless you are leaving the Mounds View District, we are NOT collecting Chromebooks. Students will keep Chromebooks over the summer. Students, including fifth graders, will be expected to bring their Chromebook back to school when we return next fall. However, if you are leaving the District, please return your Chromebook at this time.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me, our office staff, or your child’s teacher.

I wish all of you a healthy and enjoyable summer.
