Blended/Distance Learning Updates for Students

FOR BLENDED LEARNERS

Schedule/Teacher Changes

To date, more than 60 families have opted for a change in instructional model. To accommodate for these requests, we did have to shift sections of classes between models, and make changes to teacher assignments (specifically -- 8th grade math teacher Matt Johnston is moving from a distance only position to now working in both our distance and hybrid models; an 8th grade ELA section was added to Gwen Hogan’s teaching assignment, and distance sections of Life Science 7 were consolidated to allow for the creation of a new distance 8th grade Earth Science section taught by Alina Burks).

To see if your student’s schedule was impacted, please view ParentVUE or have your student check StudentVUE. We will print and distribute student schedules upon their arrival to Edgewood on 2/22 and 2/23.

Bell Schedule

As was previously communicated, students in both our hybrid and distance models will follow this bell schedule. Changes to our in-person school day include 30-minutes of time before or after lunch for students to socially interact, play games, and/or engage in physical activities. When the pool is available, students will be able to sign-up to swim, and will have access to our gymnasiums. Students will still be required to maintain 6-feet of distance from one another, and will be required to wear a mask.

Please note school lunch remains FREE to all students.

Use of lockers and backpacks

Logistically, the use of lockers remain a safety concern. This is because lockers can’t be assigned in a way that ensures six feet of distance, and because we know students tend to crowd together and spend more time than is necessary at their locker. We are continuing to stagger and limit passing times between classes.

In place of using a locker, we’re asking students use a backpack and carry necessary classroom materials with them to each period, including their school assigned Chromebook and charger.

Last November, many students choose to carry a coat with them as they transitioned classes. However, we will use the stage in our performance gym for students to drop their coat and boots at the start of day. All belongings will be secure behind a locked door during school hours.

At end of day, students that ride the bus have 7-minutes to gather their belongings on the stage and board their bus. Students departing via parent pick-up will have ample time to do the same.

Arrival and Departure Plan

Students that arrive via bus will be directed to one of three staging areas in the school.

6th grade - performance gym

7th grade - White gym

8th grade - red gym

Free breakfast is available to all in the cafeteria.

Similar to last fall, students arriving via parent drop-off may begin accessing the school at 7:30am. Parents arriving from County H should utilize the drop-off circle off of Edgewood Drive. Students arriving north of our campus (from Mounds View) should utilize the drop-off circle off of Woodale Drive. All students dropped off by parents will enter the school via our new Activities Commons (door 8).

All students will be released from school at 2:15. Students riding the bus have 7-minutes to gather their things and board their bus. Students being picked-up by parents will transition to a staging area in the Red Gym.

We are again asking parents that pick-up their student to display their child’s first and last name in the windshield so we can radio for each student individually.

Please contact your student’s dean if you have any questions or concerns about this or other information already communicated.

FOR DISTANCE LEARNERS

Schedule/Teacher Changes

To date, more than 60 families have opted for a change in instructional model. To accommodate for these requests, we did have to shift sections of classes between models, and make changes to teacher assignments (specifically -- 8th grade math teacher Matt Johnston is moving from a distance only position to now working in both our distance and hybrid models; an 8th grade ELA section was added to Gwen Hogan’s teaching assignment, and distance sections of Life Science 7 were consolidated to allow for the creation of a new distance 8th grade Earth Science section taught by Alina Burks).

To see if your student’s schedule was impacted by these changes, please view ParentVUE or have your student check StudentVUE. These changes will take effect Monday 2/22/21. As has always been the case, students simply need to login into their Mounds View Gmail calendar where they will find links to live instruction.

Bell Schedule

As was previously communicated, students in both our hybrid and distance models will follow this bell schedule. Most notably, students will begin school again at 7:45. They will have an hour break at midday for lunch.

Please contact your student’s dean if you have any questions or concerns about this or other information already communicated.
