Blended Learning Begins - Monday, September 21st!
Dear Chippewa Community:
We are thrilled to welcome our blended learners into the building! All sixth-grade students in either blended learning group -- Group 1 and Group 2 -- are invited to join us for “In the Middle Day” on Friday, September 18. Students may take the bus or get dropped off for a 7:45 am start time. We will send out more specific arrival instructions and a plan for the day by mid-week next week. We will have our sixth-grade students go to each of their classes by group, learn how to safely move about the building, get a chance to build community with their classmates, and experience lunch with their group as well. Our schedule will be modified, but sixth-grade students should plan on a full day with a 2:15 dismissal time for bus riders and a 2:25 dismissal time for walkers, bikers, and parent pick-up.
Sixth-grade distance learning only students as well as seventh and 8th-grade students will have independent work to work on at home for Friday, September 18. All our staff will be helping the sixth-grader blended learners during their “In the Middle Day.”
All blended Learning group 1 students will start in the building on Monday, September 21. They will attend periods 1, 3, 5, and 7. Our time schedule will be adjusted when we start blended learning, as we will have students in the building for passing time and staggered lunches. LINKED HERE is the new bell schedule that we will use starting Monday, September 21 for all students. Please share this with your student as they will need to login in for the first part of class each day at the beginning of class each day they are at home (blended at-home or full distance learning), starting on the 21st. Teachers will share this with their classes as well. For sixth-graders, the block is confusing and we will walk them through the new times that start on the 21st. Group 2 students will access periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 from home.
Blended Learning Group 2 will start in the building on Tuesday, September 22. They will attend periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 when Group 1 is at home.
Blended Learning Group 1 will be back in the building on Wednesday, September 23 for periods 2, 4, 6, and 7. Group 2 will be at home. They flip-flop places on Thursday, September 24.
All Students Distance Learning through September 17
We will continue in distance learning next week. Our distance learning has gone very well so far… we are impressed with the students’ quick adjustment to this mode of learning. They have been engaged and fun to work with! As we move forward, will you please remind students to have their cameras on as much as possible and to follow their teachers’ directions regarding muting and unmuting? Our teachers are eager to build learning communities, and it is far more helpful to do that if we can “see” our students.
Flex Fridays will start on Friday, September 25. Students will have one hour of content to access independently for each of their four core classes -- English/Language Arts, math, science, and social studies. Their teachers will be available for “drop-in” assistance at staggered times on Fridays. Teachers will also pull together small groups or individual students for assistance throughout the day on Friday, by invitation. Some blended learning students may be invited into the building on Fridays, especially if they need some extra assistance. They will have a specific schedule to follow and busing will be provided. Unless there is a special arrangement, students who come to the building on Fridays will spend the entire day at Chippewa.
Chippewa Middle School is committed to high-quality instruction with the use of technology in order to meet the needs of all of our students. Web-based learning resources are increasingly being used to engage students and improve student learning outcomes. This is especially true this fall and winter since many of our students will be working from home for part or, if they have selected to be fully distance learning, all of their education experiences this year.
