Choir News

A message from Ms. Crockett:
Welcome back to school everyone! It’s been a fun week getting back into the school routine. I have been encouraging  4th and 5th grade students in my music classes  to join the Turtle Lake Choirs. I tell them about the scientific research which proves that singing in a group makes people happier and healthier! As parents, isn’t this the most important thing we want for our children?
Singing in choir is a very low time commitment and there is no practice necessary outside of class. We have a winter concert and spring concert, we go “caroling” at the Shoreview Tree Lighting Ceremony, and we sing the National Anthem at a Minnesota Twins game in the spring. None of these performances are mandatory, but students usually like performing to show off what they have learned.
Turtle Lake Choir rehearsals will begin the third week of school, September 17 and 19. The 5th grade choir will meet on Tuesday mornings before school from 8:05-9:05 a.m. and the 4th grade choir will rehearse on Thursday mornings at the same time. Rehearsals will be in the music room.
There is no audition and just a $20.00 fee if a new choir shirt is requested. If you would like to not pay this fee, I have plenty of choir shirts that are clean and have been briefly worn by other students. Proper sizes are not guaranteed but worth checking on.
Also, if your child attends Y-Care on a regular basis, why not take one of those days and have them learn to sing in 2-3 part harmony in large group of friends to start their day? They will leave feeling happy, energetic, invigorated, and ready to start their school day!
If you’re interested in signing your 4th or 5th grader up for choir, or just letting them try it out, please print and fill out the attached registration form and have them turn it in to their classroom teacher, or bring it to our first choir rehearsal.
